What you have to do is set standards and adhere to them. You don’t seem to appreciate the importance of that Bobby.

Let’s take it outside footy. Let’s say you were in a law firm looking for a corporate lawyer. A hot shot applies. Problem is he’s had his practicing certificate removed a number of times for misdemeanours and been in trouble for anti social behaviour many times also. He has a long history of poor behaviour and been sacked by two prominent law firms because of his disruptive behaviour. On the basis of your reasoning because he’s a hot shot lawyer you’d hire him because he’d add something to the talent pool. Stuff the company standards. Stuff the potential damage to the image of the firm. Stuff the prospect of the harmonious working atmosphere going down the gurgler. And let’s not be concerned that his history demonstrates he’s more likely than not to re-offend. Good way to destroy a firm that!

May be try the one bad Apple in the barrel Ammo, the above didn't get through.

Again, Ammo..........if you could take a young Wayne Carey knowing full well what he will do in the years ahead off-field, would you take him which would likely ensure further premierships and overall success or would you snub him and decide to go with another one hit wonder and fall back amongst the pack?

Bobby! Bobby! Bobby! For the overwhelming majority of Carey's playing career he was not an on field or off field disruption. Quite the contrary.

Not only is it bordering on the absurd to compare the talent of the two in question, so it is to compare their history of failures and disruptive behaviour. One is a recidivist of long standing during his playing career. The other was not.

Let's hope you have nothing to do with human relations in your employment or get anywhere near it at our beloved Cats.

As bulletproof suggests, back to looking at December 13 and what is likely to occur.

Saw us taking Ben Darrou in the phantom rookie, would top off a fabulous draft season if that happened, bit of a powerhouse this kid.
Will compliment the talent already selected.

I like him too Meto. I loved that fend off that sent his opponent flying. He looks as strong as an ox. Hits the play hard. Reminds me of someone.

I wonder about this all the time. This thread has been highjacked beyond salvation.

I agree, so I deleted most (if not all) of the personal attacks, as they bought nothing to the discussion at all.

Just a friendly warning to everyone. Keep the conversation civil and without attacking other posters, or we'll have to start dishing out a few cards. A few of you were sailing perilously close to the line.

I'd like to see Darrou develop under Matt Knights next season, but having said that, I don't usually pickem, but those defensive punches while splitting packs impresses me.

I was full-on for Sam Kerridge but we got POs' Jordan Murdoch, was I disappointed?.... not at all!
Wells has exceeded my expectations already in the 2011 draft, guess what he does in the rookie will be "ok" by me as well. :)

I dont have the time to put this into to a good argument. Not being a smart arse, I just dont tonight.

Let's talk about brand.
I have known many a person who has self funded a business at a loss for a decade in the belief that brand is ALL that matters.

We've spent 11 frigging years trying to build brand.
Where are we now on the list of sporting club brands worldwide? Incredibly high.

Let's just play the other side and suggest Geelong will take Lovett.
I can promise you that the PR machine wheel would currently being oiled to a level never seen at Geelong.

They will be ready for ridicule, laughter, and sponsors raised eyebrows.

Balme and Cook would be ready for their mobiles to go into melt down.

Ok, we're a great club now. And we have the ability to work through things.
But where's the upside that = / exceeds the risk?

11 years to build the bran!!!!! Do you really think Cook would allow his work to be put at risk? Not on your life.

Maybe time to lighten up on this thread

Our brand is rolled gold - no question. No surprise that other teams are now starting to fast track our model.

But (with tongue in cheek) what would be a starting 18 that Bobby might approve of?

We would have Fev at FF, Lovett on the wing, Robbie Muir on the other wing, Carey at CHF. Cousins would be in there somewhere.

Can anyone fill in the 18? Would take a hell of a coach to handle the team.

Fevola, Lovett, Muir, Carey, Cousins:eek:

I win!
Hands down those boys in their prime would destroy any team you wanna try and beat em with:thumbsu:

They can accept the trophy whilst your mob can be greeted as fantastic role models (without any silverware of course;))

As much as these dudes excited fans of yesteryear with their knee drops to the guts, and their short punches to the groin, they'd be caught out in the modern game.

Really just relics from a by-gone era, if they brought their style to the modern game they'd barely get a touch.

Nothing more than pure hearsay but two true blue Cats suggested tonight that I shouldn't be surprised if the name of the much discussed sibling of a former star appears on the 13th. Say it isn't so. Please!:(

Wouldn't have a problem with that as long as his head is in the right place. Would be better than going for Lovett, highly overated by some. Actually if you watch some of the Essendon games were he starts to sook, he's a poor excuse for footballer let alone a man.

Massive news if so. Geez we're going to have a few big forwards on the list!

Hopefully the club can help him become what he has the capacity to be. Would be another great story from a great club.

If he ended up back at Geelong I would be happy to see him succeed, but I fear that his boat has sailed.

We have NOTHING to lose if this eventuates. Not another 4 pages of for-against NAB. Why can't we already know?

Deep down, I think even the most antagonistic about NAB would be secretly not unhappy to see the Ablett back at Geelong, enen if only permanent VFL capacity( to start with)

Where did I mention Geelong?;)

In all honesty unless the kid has stepped up and shown a massive devotion to getting the best out of himself training wise then I think this is just wishful thinking by a few people that need to let go.

Has had virtually no affect on a football match for 4 years at any level. Wasn't bagging huge tally's of goals up in the QAFL, which is a decent hop, step and jump behind the VFL, and did nothing to warrant selection or a list spot at GC.

Now I'm not a hater, I stuck up for the kid for years because I could see that there was talent there but I'm afraid it is too late. If he does get gig then so be it but just saying I'd rather see a kid that's prepared to bust their gut to make it be provided with the opportunity.

Have to say meto this kid looks all right.....does the hard things and appears a team player. Looks like he can deliver hand and foot as well....

Someone will pick him up you would think.

But was that a Travis Tuck rumour i heard?

I like Darrou coz he's got a bit of "X Factor" about him, really throws himself at the contest.
Looks a little untidy, but very effective.
There's a place for at least one of his type on our list IMO,.....a little different than the norm, reminds me of Gary Ayres from the vid.

Still, there's quite a few leftovers that were supposed to go in November.
