Regarding Janikowski tying the longest FG, this interview with the first guy to kick that distance....

Tracked down Tom Dempsey for a story in Thursday’s Bay Area News Group papers to get his reaction on having his record 63-yard field goal distance tied for a second time by Sebastian Janikowski.

You can read about Dempsey and Janikowski at this link.

Toward the end of our conversation, Dempsey, 64, relayed a story about a wish he had to play for the Raiders.

Dempsey, who at the time was playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, was serving as a player representative when he came out of a negotiating commitee meeting and came face to face with Al Davis in a hallway. Dempsey had always admired the Raiders for their willingness to do whatever it took to win.

“It seemed like there was never any air conditioning in the visitor’s locker room. I just loved their style. I truly did,” Dempsey said. “He came up to me and said, `Tom, they’re trying to trade you. Would you like to play for me?’

“I looked at him right in the eye and said, `If you’ve got a black jersey I’ll put it on right now.’ I liked the old time Raiders. A damn good football team. But I wound up getting traded to the Rams because they knew I wanted to come to the Raiders.”

George Blanda remained the Raiders place kicker in 1974 and 1975 before giving way to Errol Mann in 1976.

Dempsey said he plans on writing a letter to Janikowski to congratulate him and was interested in talking to him in person.

Just quoting it because it'll annoy STKO, and because secretly everyone wants to be a Raider.

I do hope smug analysts stop calling Tebow a third string QB now.. :p

It'll only get worse if we keep losing, espeically if guys like Cam Newton who was Tebows back up keeps playing well.

People seem to forget the end of last year.

Orton threw 19/41 for 3 ints 0 tds against Arizona before he was replaced by Tebow who then threw:

16/36, 205 YDS, 2 TD, 2 INT against SD
16/29, 308 YDS, 1 TD, 1 INT against Houston
8/16, 138 YDS, 1 TD against Oakland

For a come from behind win vs Texans, close loss to SD and a blowout vs Raiders where we didn't pass much.

I remember the Texans game. Texans had Mario , Ryans and one or two other D starters out. First half Tebow was mainly just throwing screens. Threw a shocker of a int in the endzone. Then the 2nd half they let him open up a bit and he pulled off some decent passes although a few Lloyd made him look good. Still for a second start it wasn't too bad.

Another round of 'GG posts some obscure Raiders related link that noone else on earth gives a damn about'.

Really looking forward to San Diego @ New England. Brady coming up against the top defence last year and a unit that kept McNabb to 39 yards.

Hey guys,
who do you think will have a bigger game this week J.Freeman TB or R.Grossman WAS?
im trying to figure out who to start for a fantasy team im in (not a bigfooty league)

Wouldn't trust Grossman at all. Going against a weak pass defence hes more likely to sling it 45 times and throw 4 INT's than TD's.
Freeman.

It is kind of funny that people have suddenly forgotten everyuthing they knew about Grossman and decided that hes a safe consistent play.

The giants pass defence is about as beat up as possibly could be. Grossman is still a spud.

Cards pass D isnt any better and they have a a worse pass rush imo. I wouldnt be comfortable with either Freeman or Grossman personally but for this week I would go with Sexy for this week

With Kevin Williams out for another week for the Vikings you'd expect the Bucs to stay on the ground as well. San Diego routinely got yards up the gut against the Vikings and you'd expect more of the same from Tampa. Mind you Kellen Winslow could be in for a big game. Just based on the quality of the WRs, you'd have to prefer Grossman over Freeman IMO.

Tampa Mike/Benn/Winslow -> Moss/Armstrong/TE duo IMO...

i was not impressed with the giants offense last week, hopefully should turn it around this week, the dropped passes last week that would of been caught if we had a good reciever, was mind boggling.

Everyone was blaming eli but nothing really clicked, that and the skins defence looked pretty good, ive got high hopes we'll bounce back tho

Eli looked shit, the oline looked shit, the RBs looked shit, the LBs/Secondary/special teams looked shit, DL was the only thing that looked any good at all. Thank god for depth.

eli is always going to look shit with the crap he was given to work with, i just think people are too hard on him, when he's got sweet f.a to work with.

Even when he had a tonne of time on the weekend it wasn't uncommon for him to overshoot the WRs (Even if they get their fingers on it doesn't mean it's catchable) and he put himself under pressure. Nicks and manningham are no scrubs and Ballard played well enough. Sure the line wasn't great, and the playcalling was embarrassing but Eli deserves a fair share of criticism for how the offense turned out on the weekend.

Every single goddamn snap he let the play count get down to one, so the Skins players knew pretty much every snap when to rush off the line. It's half the reason they looked good, because they knew when they were goig to go without having to worry about an early snap.

He does?

Snee is a Top 3 Guard, McKenzie is one of the best RTs, Nicks is a Top 10 WR and he has a good running game to help him. And in previous years he had O'Hara and Seubert who were Pro Bowl players if im not mistaken. Sure thats not as good as say what the Packers have but, its more than at least half the teams in the league.

Snee is good for the RBs, McKenzie is a gun, but the other three guys are new to the starting line up (Position wise for Diehl). It's not like the old OL, but this goup needs time to gel. Running game was overratehanks to the OL play.

I never thought that the pass protection for Eli was ever THAT good. He just made it look better than it was in previous years. This year though, he hardly abated fears of failure.

when i said s.f.a i meant what was given to him on the weekend, the team (incl. eli) is better than that, forget the injuries they looked like everyone was playing below there potential.

and im not sure whether eli's putting himself under all that pressure or whether the o line wasnt gelling but it seemed that every snap had him trying to dodge a pass rusher before throwing (atleast in the first 3 quarters as that was all i watched),

and the catches or potential catches were quite catchable, i think i saw him go to nicks once in that time (probs more, but it was early in the morning) and the other recievers just didnt do enough for mine

It was a weird game for the oline admittedly. About half the time Eli had plenty of time to do something constructive, but half of those times he put himself under pressure by holding onto it too long. The other half the time time the skins dline broke through early, partially because they had the jump on the play clock account.
