Didnt Hams kick 3 goals against Geelong?

Cant really compare Darling with Hams. Different players
Darling is said to be wanting a run in the midfield so he will be focusing on building a greater tank.

Darling offers marking power and goal kicking ability.
Hams was goaless in many games although he was giving his all (averaging less than 1 goal per game)......some blokes score naturally and some blokes work their butts off for little result.

I like Darling for those reasons

Hams kicked 8 goals in his last 4 games.

When he first came into the team, I was concerned about his lack of goal scoring. It's great to have a good tackler in your forwardline, but at the end of the day, forwards are there to kick goals. Thankfully, Hams clearly overcame his inability to score goals as he gained confidence in his ability to play at AFL level.

Everybody please watch Hams videos.

He creates goals for his teammates by tackiling and getting the ball to ground.

He caused alot of goals for us this way.

With the new Forced behind rule. The defenders are targets for players like Hams.
Collingwood have a strategy to completely milk everything possible with this new rule.

They are the first team to exploit the new rule. There attack on stranded defenders is first class and they get goals from this.

HAMS is the second most important player after LeCras.

true

Hams kicked 3 againt Essendon when LeCras kicked 12, we bolted in round 16.
Hams kicked 2+2+1 in the other three matches which is OK for a hard working small forward.

Hams played 4 of the last 7 games with other players injured so he made the side but hardly best 22 cemented.

Hams other 7 games produced 2 goals so while that late flurry of 8 goals in 4 matches did show great improvement I am still not convinced.

Strijk on the other hand scored 11 goals from 10 games and looked more dangerous IMO. Strijk came off a limited preperation and is 12 months younger so I think he has more up-side.

Darling had a poor year by his standards but he was the focal point for the Falcons and played only 12 games. At 18 Darling has huge up-side and I am sure in another 6 years (Hams age) he will be a goal scoring regular in our side. ;)

Baaaaahahahahaha

Stop smoking weed dude :D

If that was the case then surely he would have been up-graded to the main list, sorry to pull the pi$$ but you are sailing off course on this one.

No offense intended towards Hams because he has a decent go at it.

Darling, Swift or Gaff in before Hams.

Hams has a red hot go but lacks hurt factor, my first choice Darling would have the same agression with more hurt factor on the score board. :thumbsu:

Swift and Gaff are midfielders.
Darlings a KPF.
Hams is a small utility.

If Swift and Gaff are playing it's because a Priddis or a Rosa arent. If Darlings playing it's because Wilson isn't. Hams competes with other players like Spudcoski.

Hams is not even in our top 20 most important players. If we have a full squad he is nowhere near selection. LOL!

Agreed. Just a WAFL player really. May squeeze in a few more games while young talent matures.

I dont understand the hate for Hams. He played the small forward role better than anyone else we had (not counting Lecras as he is more of a mid size forward). He tackles well and puts good pressure on. Has an accurate kick. He kicked goals in his last few games. He was one of our best against Geelong in Rd 22.

If he was on the main list he would definitely be in the 22 unless someone can surpass him in the forward pocket role.

Not sure if serious?

He is still on the rookie list - what serious explanation do you require? If he was seen as a required player he would have been elevated. Quite frankly he is one of the least talented players on our list. Just a trier who gets by on application, 1% etc.

Agreed. He's a good disposer of the ball too, something we desperately need on our half forward line.

Nonsense. He's on the rookie list so we could elevate Stevenson, who has talent and we didn't want to lose. It was a tactical move. Least talented? His disposal is better than much of the team, his tackling is good and his hands for a small guy are also quite good. To call him one of the least talented players on the list is absurd.

He's better than Armstrong ever was IMO.

Hams is better than Nicoski, McGinnity, Bones plus a few others.

Good kick, hard at it, can kick a goal and tackle. Has a bit of of mongrel in him which we need more of.

Then you're clueless. :thumbsu:

Hams had some good games, he also had some very poor games where he was unsighted. He could easily not make the side next year... Let's not go overboard saying he is vital to team success.

Most of our team was unsighted last season.

Hams had some quite games early in the season but really performed well after he came back after midseason.
I still like to know who plays at Hams expense. :thumbsu:

So which one of Masten, Kerr, Gaff etc misses out for Hams? Or do you want a team full of short people?

He can't even play til rd 11 at earliest so who cares? :)

I would prefer him over those 3 in the forward pocket.

Second part is not necessarily true.

We were 2010 spooners & you lot are arguing over a player on the rookie list - do you realise how much improvement we need to be competitive?

Masten has a long way to go. Hopefully a full pre season will see him with the motor to contribute as a midfielder.
Shuey has even further to go.
Ebert faces a make or break year.

Hams has a go & IF he's up to it, he'll be back.

Q. Lynch of 2008 would offer this squad heaps. Discipline needed.

I'd rather have a couple more short people than 190cm midfielders looking slow.

Those 3 you mentioned are all mids.

Who would you play as our small forward pocket who would do better than Hams?

TBH I'm hoping Weedon has a blinder of a pre season and NAB cup and gets the forward pocket in round 1 because of form and goals kicked in the NAB Cup.

For Hams to play round 1 there would need to be a LTI which we don't want.

Q.Lynch of 06 yes, of 08? no

From memory he was used a mid/back up ruck that year and we don't need him performing either role for us anymore. Naitanui as the back up ruck is what we need, and his kick it long and high and hope doesn't help when going into the forward 50.

Lynch will play a lot of good footy this year, for West Perth

Weedon isn't really a forward pocket though, he's more in the LeCras mould as a lead up forward who can swing through the middle.

Hams' competition for the forward pocket should be Neates and Broome, and not shoe horning in a player from another position like Shuey/Masten/Weedon to fill that void.
