2011 - What is Hirdy's Pass Mark for the Season?

We've also established that Essendon fans are certain that this completely inexperience (yet expensive coach) is going to deliver some serious gold.

So just wondering if the Essendon fans - in all their infinite wisdom and confidence - can tell the Bay what is an 'acceptable' season for James Hird in terms of wins, losses and player development.

I think if Hird successfully can deflect his failure on to Thommo and other staff to keep his job while back-stabbing no more than 3 people it would be considered a success.

Very achievable actually considering the mastery at deflection Essendon fans seem to posses and of course their blind faith in Jimmy as messiah.

Well we're already 1 year into his first plan, and that was to rip into the club he 'loves' with his mate Lloydy at every opportunity, force the severance of the Knights contract ($$) and install himself as coach ($$) and some assistants that can actually show him what to do in the coach's box($$).

But what next for Hirdy?

The bombers fans in this thread seem to be doing everything they can to actually avoid quantifying the great hope that Slippery Jim presents to the club.

If it was measured in smugness he'd already be a successful coach.

I would suggest that Al has set the bar pretty high for himself and he knows it. My belief would be that we improve on last year's effort at a minimum or Al could lose his job.

Even factoring in injuries Burgoyne bought more to the AFL this year than most of Essendon's list. Ah Mark Williams, thanks for your good years.

If Hawthorn/Clarkson don't perform this year then Clarkson's contract (which expires at the end of the season) won't be renewed.

That's pretty clear cut, pretty fair don't you think?

This is a pretty fair assessment of the Essendon situation. I'm not qualified to assess the Clarkson situation but at a guess I'd say he might even get away with a less than successful season next year, depending on what your yardstick for success is. I'd guess that top 8 sees him keep his job.

There's no doubt that Essendon's handling of the Knights situation was less than satisfactory.

Commenting on things that have actually happened is a much better idea than trying to speculatively torpedo future events.
