2012 Australian Open: Part 3

Remember Roger crying after he won the Aussie Open a few years ago after being told Rod Laver was in the stadium.

I choked up too.

I wanted Roger to win.

Love him.

Such a gentleman and plays fair.

I thought he cried because he lost to Nadal and at that point he realised that he just couldn't take him, whereas before he'd been kidding himself that it was just a temporary abberation.

That self pitying sniffling is still one of my all time favourite sporting moments.

2006 was the year he was talking about. Don't let that get in the way of making another delightful post about Federer.

Tennis isn't that interesting anymore, it's becoming more apparent with every tournament. The fact that Wimbledon won't see play that's significantly different to what we've witnessed here is an absolute blight on the sport. Finesse, strategy and variety are dead.

How can you say tennis isn't interesting any more, we 2 of the greatest players of all time in Fed and Nadal playing with Novak who looks like he could be up there as well with the way he's going. IMO it's exciting times, there's a few good young'uns coming through who could be up there in a few years as well. There is a difference in class between the 'top 4' and the rest but it's not like they won't push the top players. Berdych was in the winning position against Nadal, could've been 2-0 up and an uphill battle for Nadal. It's not he's not competitive, it's just at the big moments he didn't play the points as well as Nadal. It only takes one breakthrough for them to get some confidence and guys like Tsonga, Berdych, Del Potro etc. could breakthrough. Even Ferrer troubled Novak a lot, the guy just didn't have the weapon to consistently hit through Novak but he still pushed him despite what the scoreline showed.

To say tennis isn't 'interesting' is wrong IMO. I find it highly interesting at the moment.

To the people suggesting Djokovic might be using some sort of illegal supplement to gain energy late in matches, have you ever considered that maybe the adrenalin that comes playing in such a high pressure, tight contest is what gets him over the line.

Or even that his poor body language (looking like he is struggling with injury) might even be a tactic used to try make his opponent lose focus or concentrate more on Novak's game than their own (ala Tomic apparently feigning exhaustion in the match against Verdasco).

The bloke is an elite athlete; to suggest that he can't last through a five set match without using illegal supplements is pretty disrespectful. Not enough credit is given to Djokovic for his ability to fight for every ball and push himself to his physical limits even when the match is nearly five hours long.

As if he'd be stupid enough to use something illegal. There is no way he'd get away with it. He was either foxing or genuinely struggling and pulled himself out of it.

I don't think anyone genuinely believes he was using anything illegal but nevertheless it is a bad look to cover your face with a towel while munching on something while millions of people watch. Why the sneakiness?

On the contrary, tennis is much more interesting right now than it was a few years ago when Fed was winning everything.

It's wrong because you find it interesting. Well played squire.

No problem with the quality of player on tour, rather the variety, as dictated by rackets and court changes.

Baseline, baseline, big serve, baseline. All courts seeing the same sorts of matches.

It's sad.

Good on him. :thumbsu:

Was a year above me in primary school, get the feeling of 'oh shit I remember this guy' every time I see or hear his name.

Djokobitch better get some lube for his arseh*le, cos Nadal is ready to take back the #1 which is rightfully his.

Dumbest Comment Ever.

I have to say although I was barracking for Djokovic last night, Murray played so well and I'm pretty confident he'll win a GS soon. It was a really good sign to see him not be a cat in such a big match and actually get close. I hope he proved something to himself last night, even if he's really disappointed with the loss you almost feel he can really get some confidence from that.

But anyway, you people are sooking about Djokovic, Murray is a massive sourpuss. The way he snatched the towell from the ball kid was pretty tight I thought. I can't handle the sooking either, albeit its improved a bit.

Stuff women's final. Hope they play for 213983980 hours just so the crowd gets their money's worth.

Get on with it! I feel sorry for the players who are playing after them (the mens doubles). They should have just played that game this afternoon
