Probably more hopeful of a Dimboola win but who cares it's a tip. Dimboola won't get a better chance to knock off Horsham than now with Parish, Rentsch, Barnett & Burke out too name a few.

The roos have to go with Macfarlane at CHF and Lachie Exell at FF as last week that was the best combination & they looked very dangerous.

Dimboola will definately match them in the hard ball as they have some very hard at it players & are a good tackling side, but too beat Horsham they have to play with a lot more polish & class.

Skurrie & Adlington are the keys for Horsham in my book and if they are kept quiet it will go a long way to beating them. Cheers

Very interesting to see Roos not up to it given the way they have been talked up past weeks. Roos "quiet confidence" mentioned this week not evident during third quarter. Sounds like another train chuffing to me.

Was unable to get to game unfortunately but did Arnell and Duncan play as heard both were doubtful.

How was Mcfarlane? Has he still got it?

The Horsham RSL Diggers lost their 4 games of footy today by a combined total of 575 points or about 95 goals.

Considering their U14's only went down by 22 points that is some sort of record.

I reckon its about time the League stepped in and moved United to HDFL. The club has not been up to major league standard for a long time and appear to be going backwards even further. Those sorts of results seriously undermine the standard of the League. If they don't want to move imo they should be folded.

Either that or they act to support a struggling club. The first thing they could do is advocate with the council to have the Diggers train at the City oval on a Thursday and Tuesday night.

they Have Horsham this week and boy will they cop a thrashing there as well 200+

Do you really think the diggers training on a tues thurs would make a difference? I believe they need to move leagues or fold the loosing margins are ridiculous and making dragging the quality of Wimmera League down!

It’s hard to really say. I noticed though there have been a couple of players who have left the club saying the training times was one of the main reasons for them leaving.

I think United just need help to be on a level playing field with some of the other clubs.

First thing might be to return to original home at North Park. Pick any nights they like

Maybe. They would need a huge amount of council support for that. They would need to sell their club rooms at the city oval. They would also need to invest a heap into Cornell park. If united move or fold it will leave the rate payers out of pocket. The city oval already runs at a huge loss and the council will not increase the bill to the current tenants. As it is rate payers are heavily subsidising the two tenants on a year by year basis.

I think everyone is going a little over the top with united. From memory, didn't they finished 3rd or 4th in 2007?? They’re just going through a rough patch at the moment. A lot of country clubs have them for however long. no doubt they will get back to the winners list, particularly with pete miller around the club.

Fair call I guess.
They will need an enormous amount of talent to come into the club before they be competitive on the footy field again.

Where are they going to find this talent?

They have been trying their hardest to get their juniors up and going, but judging by the team sheets from Saturday they only had about 15-16 players in the twos, u17's and u14's. You shouldn't be expecting the kids to play 2 games each week, although in saying that even the Evil Empire had to use 5 under 17's last week to fill the 2's.

Its been a sticking point for a long, long time. The league/VCFL will need to do something with the structure, number of teams in the Wimmera, HDFL in the near future. 16 a side reserves has been mentioned by a few clubs.

History shows Minyip and Murtoa finished 4 & 5th the year before they merged. Rupanyup finished 5th 2 seasons before they went to District League so not sure that is all that relevant.

Whilst I would prefer not to be critical of volunteer administrators United have never forged a path of their own with a long term vision. They have tended to want a piece of what everyone else has rather than create a culture of their own.

They repeatedly change their name. They opted to come to City Oval as co-tenants declaring they wanted to fit in with everyone and not disrupt any current proceedings. Why would they now complain about having to train Monday & Wednesday? If that was a problem why did they not remain at North Park? Don't complain about something that was a given when you took it on.

They had the area and the demographics to create a great facility but instead thought by going to City oval success would just happen by being there.

Success is created by those within. For those involved with successful clubs would know exactly what I mean. It takes a hell of a lot of hard work and innovation. Not just a everyone else should do something about our problem mentality.

Well said ... Horsham is prime example of restructuring that works. Before this run of success, they investigated the idea of a merger, but the club decided to go it alone, restructure and do a lot of recruiting not only in the player department but the volunteer department as well. Speaking to ex players / committee to get back on board, which as we can see has worked pretty well. I think most clubs would have been in the same boat at some stage of being volunteer bankrupt. It takes alot or work to run a footy club and it can not be left to too few

Hope the Diggers can kick a goal in the Seniors tonight. The other 3 grades failed to kick one.

Reserves - Horsham 172 v United 7
U17's - Horhsam 214 v United 1
U14 - Horsham 82 v United 3

edited x2: opps

At least they managed 7 goals for a 149 point drubbing.

Seniors - Horsham 192 v United 43
