I struggle to pull anyone legitimately out of that list, but also struggle to think how Pearce didn't get in.

Clearly he's number 41.

Alternatively - he's the number one All Irish All Australian.....

At the end of the day, couldn't give a stuff - would take Hanley, Leuey and Rocky any day of the week and I don't need some AA selector to say otherwise.

You's have too. Hibberd was consistent all year. Personally would have thought one of Hanley or Hibberd would be in ahead of someone like Mackie.

Bit surprised about Hibberd, Dustin Martin and Steven Morris being excluded as well. Seeing as though they have all been as good as, or better than those who have been selected ahead of them, in particular Steven Morris who has been the BEST shut down small defender in the AFL, especially when Defenders roles are to stop the opponent first.

Exactly. Never mind the fact that they have been the top rebounding defender and small forward in the AFL. That isn't important. What is important, is we need to be able to fit all this midfielders in somehow.

My advice when All Australian is named: smile politely, say "that's nice" and move on.

I am happy to have a team with no AA players winning games and soon playing finals long long before having players named in a team built for a Melbourne/Adelaide/Perth audience.

It is the usual routine - a player might be considered good but not a "star" unless they are in the southern media's attention. Their attention on anything this far north is very brief, very superficial and very patronising.

I'd be interested in how many games Hanley played as a true backman. Gut feel is that he played a lot more on a wing, onball or half forward. Not sure he had a better season than most of the blokes named who played those roles. Of course, AA selectors don't always pay attention to positions played but Hanley as a wide midfielder has a lot more competition than as a half back flanker.

Rockliff was never a chance. No problem with that one.

Patfull suffers from being an unfashionable player in an unfashionable side. He's the sort of bloke who only makes AA if he's part of a gun team. He and Gibson aren't poles apart but Gibson is in a top side whilst Patfull is not.

Leuenberger was stiff IMO. It was probably a toss of the coin for the 2nd ruck spot. I thought he might have got the nod though.

Lindsay Thomas being in the All-Australian squad makes me physically ill. Though I suppose with Steve Johnson missing selection they had to have at least one Oscar winner in there.
