Thats not the issue here. We all know Ball is in their best 22. The issue is whether he is a good SC pick or not and i think he isnt even at his discounted price
Not too sure why you are going on about midfielders going passed him and him not getting much game time/being sub candidates then if you agree he's a lock in the starting 18.

Dont think you can take into account his form at Stkilda as Colligwood have got more quality mids running around that he will have to compete against for gametime especially with the emergence of Beams last year who came good after Ball went down. Also coming off a knee injury he will be eased back in early on and wont be at his best till at least half way through the season

In his last years in St Kilda Ball's game time was a joke. There's no way he's going to drop that low at Collingwood.

Who would Josh push out at the moment?

To me he is fighting with Enright for a spot and that's a battle Josh isn't going to win

Varcoe. He hasn't played in a year and needs to get match fitness first before he even regains his touch and form. Would suspect his name will be thrown into the sub bin for a little while.

I've only gone the one mid pricer this year, Varcoe (due to lack of of fwd rookies). Much rather go the gun/rookie strategy.

Have had Brodie Smith and Luke Ball in my team at times though.

cheers yoda, was thinking about getting him, but didnt know he had offseason surgery, think i will steer clear. One other player not sure to put in backline or not, is heppell, what ppl think about him in sc this year?

To be honest, it's whiter you want him or not(?). Is a proven SC scorer and natural improvement should see him go up another gear (hopefully).

Thoughts on Shannon Byrnes everyone? Wait till NAB cup?

I see massive upside for Byrnes and at only 230k it is safe to presume that he should play every game with his new team the Demons and be very effective for a cash cow option. He is one of only 3 players in my team that are Mid pricers/cash cows. If he was at any other team other than the excellent Cats outfit and Top 8 clubs he would be close to best 22 material and the Demons got him for a reason in an area they lack.

I can see an average of around 70+ like he did in 2010 from 23 games at Geelong. Unlucky to only play 9 games the last 2 years as he was pushed out of the Cats team but performed very well in the VFL with an average of close to 20 disposals and 5 tackles a game coupled with a second for the Cats for I50's , 4th for tackles and disposals and 7th for scoreboard impact.

Will slot in nicely at the Demons IMO and a good smoky pick at a bargain price.

If Byrnes averages 70, that's pretty close to a loss as it means he'll only top out around the $350k mark. He won't be a keeper and he'll only make about $120k, so you're losing out either way. IMO he's only worth picking up if you foresee an 85+ average, because that'll make his price rise the equivalent of a good rookie, or 95+ because that's about forward keeper level.

If he makes say a 150k profit he is an excellent downgrade target to free up cash later on. If he improves even more you get to keep him and take his decent scores at the bargain price of what he is now. As a 5th/6th FWD i see better value than a rookie as the job security is there and a guarantee of games. No doughnuts and avoiding them is very hard as rookies taper off and no 1 rookie is guaranteed to play more than 10 games and in most cases even less.

Each to their own though.

I cant see Byrnes averaging more than 70 as he will more than likely play as a small forward in a forward line that will struggle to get the ball down there often enough for him to create enough chances. A good rookie at a far cheaper price will give you about the same output as Byrnes. To make it worth your while you would need him to average at least 85+ and that wont happen

obviously wait until after the nab cup and see what rookies put their hand up for selection.... but i feel with this year being the first of the sub rule and no expansion teams rookies to load up on it could very well be worthwhile paying a premium and getting in somebody like Byrnes even if he is going to average 70 and only make 120k... all its gonna take is 1 vest for a rookie in rds 4-6 to completely stuff up their price for the next month ... a guy with a mature body and 10 preseasons under his belt isnt immune to the vest but is FAR less likely to be vested when compared to a developing kid

Hamish McIntosh has bunged his knee, so Nathan Vardy look a much more likely prospect as a mid priced ruckman being the next ruckman in line, could be a good pick up

Lets not forget Trent West is a Premiership player and played 20 games in 2012. I still think Vardy has a bit to do to move him out the way. If he wasn't in Geelong's plans they would have let him go to GWS last year when the offer was on the table.

Any chance Gorringe or Nicholls are going to get gametime for the Suns?

I think Pedersen and vardy are good value in the ruck department!

How does everyone feel about Robbie Gray? Recovered from his knee reco and from what i've heard is looking very solid on the training track

Robbie Gray is dating Shaun Higgins at the moment - story will break in the Hun tomorrow - two eternal teases have finally combined to make 1 decent footballer.
