What is Cats fans opinion on Nathan Vardy? Looked to be a very good playing in the making before injury ruined last year. I'm looking at him as R2 with Roughhead in the forward line as back up with the plan to up grade Vardy to Nic Nat when he is up and firing...

More potential than production at this stage. I'd personally have him behind McIntosh and West, though he will get a fair few games. It's going to be a big battle between Vardy and West, as Vardy has been injured for nearly the whole time that West has emerged and I don't think West has played VFL since mid-2011.

Vardy probably has the bonus that he could also slot in as a permanent key forward, if Podsiadly drops off, or something happens to Hawkins, but even there he's got Mitch Brown, Josh Walker and Shane Kersten to fight for a spot.

Personally, I think West has done enough to keep his spot in the side and McIntosh taking over a lot more of the workload will do West the world of good. I'd hold off on Vardy until a bit further down the track.

Thanks for your answer. Time for plan B then!! I thought that he might be slightly ahead of West due to his ability to go play 2 different roles in the side..

You'd probably get a different answer from a different Geelong supporter; plenty think that he is best 22. We'll know a bit more around NAB Cup time. Geelong is pretty iffy, as personally I think we've got four legit AFL ruckmen (the three already mentioned and Dawson Simpson), but, unless McIntosh can wind the clock back a few years, there's no real standout and they've all got pretty big question marks surrounding them (can McIntosh stay healthy? Can West stay in front of Vardy? Will Vardy's body hold up? Is Simpson over his back problems and will he get a chance to show what he can do in 2013?).

My gut feel is it might be wise to stay away from Geelong rucks in general as even if a clear pecking order is established, there's sure to be a lot of rotation throughout the season. All four had injury concerns last year and all but West would have been classified as 'severe' injuries.

What are ppls thoughts on mummy?

Defiantly underpriced. But the new ruck rules will hurt him a bit I reckon, + he is likely to miss games with injury and suspension. Risky pick for me.

I've got McEvoy as my #1 ruck atm, it will be either him or Jacobs come round one.

Yeah I reckon if pike continues his improvement it could hurt mummy's scoring aswell.

Still the man can rack up the 150s

I think i am going with Maric, Lleunberger, Gorringe, Ceglar
Not what I'm going with but I like it.
ATM I'm going (the popular, it's popular for a reason though) GoldBerger, then Gorringe with a side order of MPP R/F.

Im strongly considering Gorringe as r3, at this stage looks most likely to play regularly out of the rookie priced rucks.
Im not sure of any others that fit the bill in this regard.

North will play a back up ruck to Goldstein i reckon, NAB form will dictate who. The R$ spot should/could be used as your R/F swap but with a guaranteed ZERO to enable use of the VC/Capt loophole

Good thinking, though with my track record im never short of a zero on the bench. Plus i dare anyone not to put ablett captain even with the loophole, last time i did that he scored 190+

Im sure currie and daw will get games, but i think North will go with the goldy/petrie combo most, cant see daw/currie getting more than 5 - 7 games each, barring injury

Originally had Goldstein, Leuenberger but have moved a few around and settled on Cox, Berger. Feel much more comfortable with those two. Problem is if Berger goes down its hard to replace with anyone at that price range, could possibly have to end up starting someone like Gorringe/Vardy etc which would not be ideal but it has to be done at the price. I couldnt afford my 5-1-4 midfield otherwise.

Choose McBean at R4, then include ruffhead or Ryder in your fwds (this covers if looney burger goes down and doesn't cost your team balance that much.
Or just go with Cox and Maric - spend the $$$$ and watch the points roll in

Im just going to risk it. I'll worry about it if it happens. I dont want to change my whole team around just for the one ruck spot.

How much game time is SO'h likely to get? Price is attractive. Can he score close to Leuey?

I expect him to play the ruck/forward back-up for Giles when fit, so he'll probably play a bit but I doubt he's going to score brilliantly. Going off previous averages and their teams, I wouldn't expect him to get anywhere near Leuenberger.

Anyone gunna have a dash at Hickey? I won't personally but since the Saints paid so much for him you'd think they'd play him at least a bit.

I'm not sure if they will hurt Mummy that much, he's an intelligent ruckman who is quite subtle for such a unit in his tapwork. Reckon he could actually benefit by establishing front position in the ruck contest early through sheer endurance.
