interesting list there thewitness I don't think some will finish as high as you've got them currently though like Covered in Chrome and Black Skinhead for example.

Good to see A$AP Rocky has a chance with ****in' Problems tho I was thinking his best chance would've been Hell with Santigold. Where does that currently rank by your count? Also the following if you don't mind...

Cage the Elephant, Calling All Cars, Nine Inch Nails, Pez and Jay Z?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I cannot stand Kanye the person or Kanye's music.
And this is from someone who likes rap, good rap.

I just can't stand it, I dont like his voice, and maybe its just the ones that get airtime but his lyrics have no substance and often don't even make sense. Now his album tracks may be different but from what ive heard it all just sounds like someone who is trying to hard, its not natural and smooth like rap should be, well I think so anyway

But thats just one casual listeners opinion

I'd certainly agree that he's becoming more of a douche with this latest album, whereas with his previous album I more enjoyed his arrogance because it was imo one of the best albums ever made and felt he could pretty much say whatever he wanted. But with Yeezus it's like he's made the album just to piss people off, e.g. creating a song where the words 'I am a god' are repeated again and again.

But if you can be bothered listening to these songs you'll see that he can write awesome stuff that's not all arrogant or taking the easy option of rapping about how much money you have, bitches you have and drugs you sold in your past:
- Never let me down (song off his first album with Jay-Z)
- Diamonds from Sierra Leone
- Hey mama (which someone suggested earlier)
- Homecoming (the very poppish song from his Graduation album that feature's Chris Martin. When you first hear this song it appears to be a love song for a past gf but it's actually about Chicago, and is incredibly clever)
- Cant tell me nothing - this is kind of an arrogant song which is about himself but it's more light hearted and he's somewhat having a laugh at some of the stupid things he does.
- Murder to Excellence - off his and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne album.

My votes:

Vance Joy - Riptide

Arcade Fire - Afterlife
Arcade Fire - Reflektor
Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?
Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
Vampire Weekend - Unbelievers
National, The - Graceless
Andy Bull - Keep On Running
Cold War Kids - Miracle Mile
Sticky Fingers - Australia Street

Really hoping Do I Wanna Know or Riptide gets up for the win.

Nine Inch Nails - Come Back Haunted #320
Pez - The game #168

Great work as always witness. Just wondering how many votes you counted last year before the top ten was roughly set in stone?

Just had a check back at the last lots of predictions. The lowest a song that I have tipped Top 10 has actually finished in a countdown where I have at least 5000 votes (2011, 2012 & the best of 20 years poll) was 16th. That has occurred on 2 occasions.

very impressive accuracy I must say!
I was wondering how Jagwar Ma were polling, would've thought they'd get at least one in the countdown!

My votes:
Arctic Monkeys - Arabella
Karnivool - The Refusal
Karnivool - We Are
Dead Letter Circus - Lodestar
Dillinger Escape Plan, The - One Of Us Is The Killer
Kvelertak - Bruane Brenn
Queens Of The Stone Age - I Appear Missing
Queens Of The Stone Age - My God Is The Sun
Red Fang - Blood Like Cream

Bronx, The - Youth Wasted
I think Royals or Get Lucky are a lock for one and two. They were the biggest hits that I can remember of 2013, so all the 'casual JJJ fans', so to speak, who vote for the sake of voting will get them up there.

Great list thewitness.

Is that 5000 individual votes or 5000 voters? And are you just using facebook and twitter to view votes or are there other things you use?

I'm cheering for Arcade Fire, Kanye and Lorde this time, hoping for 10 between them. With two Lorde tracks sneaking into the #90-100, team SamFFC has managed the ten. But will be tight, given those could easily be displaced.

Lorde will obviously have "Royals", "Tennis Court" and "Team", really hoping for "400 Lux" as well, as I voted for that.

Arcade Fire will have "Reflektor" and "Afterlife" then probably one other... "We Exist" or "Here Comes the Night Time"?? Not sure.

Ye will have "Bound 2", "Black Skinhead" and "Blood on the Leaves". Would love to see "Hold My Liquor" get in there too.

If all my hopes and dreams come true then I count 11 :)

Yeah I think Lorde will get 4 locks (Royals/Tennis Court/Ribs/Team), and maybe on a 5th.
Arcades will get 2, and then a maybe on the 3rd - not terribly confident.
And should be a safe 3 for Yeezus. Another would be good but again not confident.

So I'd say conservative estimate 9, optimistic would be 11-12 :)

My votes for anybody who is tabulating

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?
Arctic Monkeys - Snap Out Of It
Foals - Late Night
Foals - Out of the Woods
Kite String Tangle - Given the Chance
St Lucia - Elevate
Portugal the Man - Modern Jesus
Chvrches - Gun
Haerts - All the Days
London Grammar - Strong

Not voting this year, don't know enough of the songs on the list so I'd be the cause of the problem with the Hottest 100 that I mentioned earlier in the thread.

In saying that hoping Karnivool get one of the tracks off Assymetry on there, if they do I'm expecting it to be "We Are", it's a massive shame that "Sky Machine" isn't one of the options on the vote screen though, best track on the album IMHO.

Will do, I'll report back

I'd add to those 2, Graduation + 808's & Heartbreak. Beyond there lyrically his music turned to crap and just by coincidence as did his arrogance in general. The diehard fans like to pull out some excuse like he's just trolling everyone that doesn't get it but reality is fame ruins some people's head space pretty quickly and cocaine probably helps as well.

MBDTF is outstanding, even for those who don't like rap. Who cares if it isn't as lyrically good as late registration, it's still one of the best albums of the last 10 years and thats coming from someone who hates Kanye.

It is one of the definitive hip hop albums of all time

I see what you did there

Ahhh FasterLouder outdo themselves again. "Latch" was 2012 you gooses.

There's no continuity for what's applicable. That Mac DeMarco song was released on an album in 2012, but Latch was released on an album in 2013. Pitchfork do "cultural resonance in the US" as the use by date. Maybe Triple J conform to when they just started rinsing said song most? Who knows.

Revisiting some tracks from 2013, surely Whoa- Earl Sweatshirt can make the 100, ridiculous mutisyllabic rhyming. Fairly overlooked album, probably due to Odd Future having a lot of w***ers in their fanbase but Earl would have to be the best young rapper I've heard for ages.

Both of those Earl records are interesting. They're really good but a lot more typical to the kind of rap I was around as a kid, not the hip-hop vibe that's trending a lot now. The Odd Future crew cop a bit but he and Tyler really don't conform to what's cool or trendy in hip hop – I know that sounds facetious, saying OF aren't trendy, but I'm serious – Doris sounds a lot different to the other good rap albums this year.

Sunday is the only Earl Sweatshirt song getting any votes, and I have it currently at #253 so very little chance of making the 100.

This is true, however Latch came #21 in last year's countdown. I believe that JJJ just goes by when they start playing the song, "I Spy" by Mikhael Paskalev is eligible but definitely came out earlier than 2013. Their music video was posted to YouTube on 07/03/2012. It would clear up a lot of confusion if they outlined some sort of eligibility criteria. Wonder how many write-in votes are wasted on songs that JJJ don't deem to be a "2013 song?"
