The comp between 2005 and 2013 Pineapple Cup/Allied pickfords became more
even and competitive blowouts were becoming less frequent/ Then ot all got changed back to square 1

At least Mayne are in the other side of the floggings now. It will take a while to settle down, but the comps will even out over time.

Mayne should be in the QAFL, they were very good last year & unlucky to miss finals, and with the calibre of players they have they would be right up there!! Didn't they smash UQ & Mt Gravatt in pre season??

Maybe one day but the club declined the offer to go in the QAFL as they thought they weren't ready for the step up at this stage

Reckon a fair difference bn comps still. Sometimes I think the AFLQ, as a means of allowing for travel as well as maintaining a reasonably even comp is to have a 12 team comp, play everyone once (11 games, assume a max of 3 games would be travelling a long distance, say SC to GC) + the 6 sides north play each other twice and the 6 sides south play each other again (another 5 games). Would mean 16 games only of course. Then have a final 6 which hopefully would account for a level of disparity bn the north and south (if there is any?). Out of 16 matches you would play a maximum of 3 games with over 150km travel - not alot I reckon to accommodate an even competition. Think this would work at Colts level too. Sides that don't play in this comp (call it QAFL(A) if you like) then play in a very regional based comp (QAFAnorth and south). If you took the top 6 sides from both the north and south this year it would be a really good mix of teams imo. And have relegation/promotion as well if you like.

Conversely a couple of sides probably shouldn't have gone into the QAFL, but time will tell.

Its easy to keep the playing field even really. If possible the top 2 sides of the year go up a division while the bottom 2 drop down

Scarecrow - the criteria for playing in the QAFL isn't just about ladder positions - there are a variety of "pillars" that a club must meet.

From what i've been told a few of the QAFL sides have struggled to get fantastic buy in from players to step up a level in training, professionalism. Understandable really as the players aren't really consulted as to whether they are happy to train an extra night, or have recovery sessions etc. In due course I think people will find their level for commitment etc but as long as they keep playing somewhere thats probably the most important thing.

This has legs! You should put this forward to the powers-that-be.

Would your final 6 be 3 from the North and 3 from the South, or just the best 6 on a combined ladder?

On current form you'd have:

QFA North
Caloundra
Kedron
Mayne
Maroochydore
Nambour
Noosa

QFA South
Alex Hills
Burleigh
Kenmore
Robina
Springwood
Yeronga

Gets a bit harder to split the 14 teams that'd be in the league below geographically, but could look like:

QAFA North
Aspley
Caboolture
Coorparoo
Griffith Moorooka
Pine Rivers
Redcliffe
UQ

QAFA South
Beenleigh
Carrara
Coolangatta
Coomera
Ipswich
Logan
Park Ridge

Potential for some fantastic rivalries amongst those four divisions!

Nah the 6 would be on ladder positions at end of year. Look not sure about clubs from either end but I do know that some clubs are far better suited to a certain level of competition than others based on their abilities to recruit players, raise monies, junior base etc. caboolture is interesting though. It is a club with massive upside IMO just needs someone to grab it and shake it up a bit. Their new facilities are a free kick that every club should be envious of.

Probably right Lenny - just think the AFLQ overstate the travel situation sometimes. What you don't want is for blokes to have to travel significant distances to play in a certain comp. Think the ability to have a real competition is what drives most players to play. The (very) social footballer will always be catered for somewhere.

Can anyone confirm that the incredibly fair footballer from Noosa has been suspended for 5 weeks for his dog acts on Nambour and Kedron footballers?

Travel to me means little, only as it's what I was brought up on, playing under 17's in country Vic often meant 2.5 hour trips to start at 10:00 am but I get that it would be an issue to go Coast to Coast regularly.. The comps are what they are, I wouldn't have minded:
QAFL B
Burleigh
Coolangatta
Coorparoo
Kenmore
Maroochydore
Mayne
Noosa
Robina
Springwood
Yeronga

QFA Nth
Aspley 2
Caboolture
Caloundra
G.Moorooka
Kedron
Nambour
Pine Rivers
Redcliffe
UQ 2

QFA Sth
Alex Hills
Beenleigh
Carrara
Coomera
Ipswich
Jimboomba
Logan
Park Ridge
Wynnum

Would be a great result if it was true, but haven't gotten any wind of this yet.

Agree Footy 1st - think it does matter if a guy wants to play QAFL and lives on the SC though bc he has to travel 200km round trip just to train! To play it doesn't matter too greatly (to most blokes)

Yeah SMY there doesn't seem to be much of a pathway for the young guns to play a higher standard from the SC. And great point re: the travel to games not being the issue, but the training is a massive deterrent.

Is what it is currently Footy 1st I suppose - we will have a QAFL side up this way in due course. TBH even Burpengary would be alright as it is only a 40min drive from most areas on the coast to there.

That was the plan in building that facility wasn't it? Population growth, SC recruitment market etc?

Yeah I think so - with the size Northlakes is (bit like Springfield) and the projected growth of the SC then you would think that it would be a good spot.
