Peter McEvoy.

Number 54
Date of birth
Previous Clubs University of Tasmania, North Hobart, Wodonga Raiders

The Hawks have scored two McEvoy boys as Peter McEvoy joins his brother to don the Brown and Gold this year. The tall forward was recruited from Tasmania and has played for North Hobart and the University of Tasmania. Originally from the Wodonga Raiders, McEvoy has a forward presence like no other. He’s not satisfied with just a single major; McEvoy consistently hits the scoreboard with goal after goal. His intelligent play throughout the forward half and ability to find space for prime marking consistently promoted him as a stand out player week in week out for University. McEvoy’s dominating composure in the forward line will be a sight to see in the season to come.

Fair billing.

How's Ayden Kennedy going?

I had suspicions we were interested in him while he was at the Roos. He seems to be another one of those 190cm defenders that can do it all. (Stratton/Litherland)

I watched him a few times while he was with North's reserves. Showed a lot of AFL qualities, but looked like he lacked confidence.

Could he possibly win himself a spot on the Hawks rookie list at the expense of Kelly. I like Kelly, but can Kennedy offer more while playing off the rookie list? Am I right in saying that Kennedy is faster, better skilled and has the versatility to play forward? Kelly seems to have more consistency, composure and goes in a bit harder from what I've seen.

AK is a very good footballer and has been a consistent performer. DOB 30/10/91, 192cms, 85kgs. He reads the play well and has clean hands. I'm still not sure how to rate his disposal. His straight line pace is OK but his lateral movement needs improvement. I agree he lacks confidence and I think you can often put that down to past injuries. If AK can gain confidence his body will stand up his lateral movement could improve and he might become stronger in contests. A concern might be that AK didn't have a significant impact in the higher standard state game against South Australia. At 192/85 you need to have something special and that will be the challenge if AK is to get another chance at AFL level.

Thanks Floss, very interesting. 1st 20m sprint, 4th agility and equal 7th standing vertical jump. I think the testing supports my thoughts re past injuries leading to a lack of confidence and impacting on a players performance. AK could certainly have that something special if he can have an injury free run and gains trust in his body to stand up.

Ayden K has a booming kick on him. Good VFL player, probably our best VFL player, but size matters. Doubt he could hold down a KPP at AFL, dunno if he has the wheels to play as a midsizer.

Last week saw P McEvoy lead from FB, reached the centre and his opposing FF hit him in the guts, P.Mc, picks himself up then takes a strong grab on the HFF. Great stuff.
