Geez you could almost run out Team Orange for round one. Looks the stronger of the two, but White looks pretty damn good too. What it does do is it highlights the depth we've got.

Why is everyone on other boards convinced Griff is struggling with a back complaint ?

I had someone on our Freo board bring it up as well.

I'm not missing something am I ? From what I have seen he has been involved in everything in the summer and Playing today right ?

“A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.” - C. H. Spurgeon

In this case it's because the guy spreading the rumour carpetbombed the media with something people would like to believe is true, yet the club's refutation got no coverage because it's just boring. I will note the lack of media spreading the rumour since the club has come out and said it's BS.

Edits 1-3: Ok, I've been far too anal about finding the correct attribution of the quote I was using. Though personally I actually prefer the Jonathan Swift version.

Good guy on the freo board believes he is a family friend and he has an issue there that he is playing through.

I guess it will all come out in the wash

Expecting griff to tear it up this afternoon

For some reason I think Pickett will too

Looking forward to heading down to BISP soon. Great to have a day off today. Hoping all the new recruits have a great hit up. This is the bit I am looking forward to the most, seeing how they go. Would be great to see the likes of Cameron and Haynes ripping it up too!

LC has to figure out how to organise the forward line talls in the absence of Patton. Giants look best with Patton @ FF, Cameron @ CHF.
So should Cameron start @ CHF this year, and have someone fill in for Patton?
Has Tomlinson got any closer in the last 2 years to the Riewoldt type that was hoped for? Can he hold down CHF?
Can WHE play 'taller' than a flank or a pocket?
Has Tommo's best position ever been found?
Stewart and/ or McCarthymight be better overhead than Tomlinson.

Tomlinson is great overhead. By his own admission, he needs to get better at contested possession/marking.

We asked the Bulldogs for a copy of his medical records - you know, for our records. He's had back problems before so naturally the mere asking for a copy of his records means that there must be something wrong. 2+2=37.

My thoughts at quarter time:

- Adam Treloar is quite simply a gun
- Dylan Shiel is a standout on the underpowered white team, would like to see him use it a bit more by foot but whether it's outside/inside he'll make an impact with ball in hand
- Good to see Curtly running through the midfield but he needs to improve his decision making and execution, so much potential there that just needs to be refined
- Have liked what Zac Williams has done so far, he's a very dynamic player who gets involved and uses the ball well. Won't ever be an A-Grade player but think he's exactly the kind of player you'd want as your 16-22nd best player
- Toby Greene needs to improve his ball use, early in the first was running into the forward fifty and delivered it lace out to an opposition player. With the strength and depth of the Giants midfield if he's not able to use the ball effectively he may find himself on the outer.
- Overall things look good, the white team definitely could use a few more top line players in the midfield but other than that it's been a good game. Hoping to see any of Pickett/Steele/Ahern step up and push their case for senior games this season.
- Heath Shaw looks like an extra from Flashdance with his headband/wristband combo, all he needs now is a pair of legwarmers.

1/2 Time:

- Shiel is probably the leading disposal getter out on the ground and uses it well pretty much every time, hope we see him breakout to the elite category this year
- Kelly had an excellent term and kicked a couple goals playing off a forward flank, still needs to add a couple kilos but the kid is a gem.
- Zac Williams is really impressing me, came third man up quite a few times in the second and killed the ball. Defensively a very good player and handles pressure really well. With a strong NAB Cup could easily establish himself as best 22.
- Good to see Ryan Griffen being let loose a little bit and not confined strictly to the inside, has been floating around and getting a bit of the ball. Can't replicate experience.
- Toby Greene had a couple really nice handballs in traffic but again his footskills are a massive liability, was kicking out of the defensive fifty towards the end of the quarter and kicked it high and looping to a man free outside the arc and gave his opponent time to close him down and spoil the mark. Needs to improve.
- Whitfield showing some nice skills but a scrappy game like this isn't where he shines, once Griffen/Treloar/Shiel/Cogs are all together on the inside Lachie's role on the outside will be enhanced tenfold. Fear he may struggle under a tag but any side in the comp would be improved by someone with his skills.
- Devon Smith will quite simply be one of the best forward leaning midfielders in the league, he's in that Robbie Gray class. Simply a beautiful footballer to watch.

There's quite a bit going on so if anyone wants to ask questions I'll do my best to answer accurately.

Stewart's hammy has been iced from about the 5 minue mark. Doesn't look too serious, but must place him in doubt for NAB cub early weeks. Sunshine needs to start taking some grabs. He has put himself in the right spots most of the time, but they are not sticking inside or around 50. Tomlison is playing fwd, back, wing, etc. Expect to see him bob up in the canteen downstairs! Has been taking some good grabs, running hard and disposal seems reasonable. He and Haynes the pick of the young talls for mine.

Of the new blokes, Patfull seems to have slotted into his back line very well and looks the goods. Griff has slowly worked into the game and is showing his stength in the contests, particularly up forward. Steele is looking the most at home of the draftees. Ahern and Mckenna have done a couple of good things, Pickett a little lost for mine (his near chase down on Hampton towards the end of the half showed a glimps of his speed).
