Hogan was a deserving winner, and should have won it regardless, but I agree that the votes should have been closer. The selectors need to be kicked off the panel and replaced with proper analysers of the game and the nominees.

My guy didn't win = bias.

Reality is they were a deserving 1/2 and it could've been a tie. Theyll both have great careers and hopefully remain one club players and lead their respective clubs back out if the wilderness.

But I'm glad Hogan won because it's the first leg of my multi up - now just need Fyfe to bring home Charlie ;)

Yeah I felt the same way when Lewis Taylor won last year. lol
I agree. The criteria for this award just feels so all over the place. It changes from year to year, sometimes potential isn't considered and decided purely on form (like last year as Bont missed a number of games compared to Taylor), sometimes it is the deciding factor, like this year.

Don't disagree with the winner, couldn't go wrong with Cripps or Hogan (although if we take away the illusion of potential related to their playing position, Cripps had a better year - fact).

But does anyone else have a serious problem with the Rising Star voting? An award decided by buffoon ex-footballers with one too many concussions influenced by media hype? Really?
Don't forget Gill McLachlan.

Would he honestly even watch more than 2 games a weekend? Enough to even know who is the best young player in the comp?

Yeah it's definitely a flawed system (not even commenting on the result today). Of those on the panel the only person I'd really trust is Sheehan. The rest of them wouldn't have even watched every game.

Reality is the votes were as close as they could be - all judges but one voted Hogan 5 Cripps 4 (with the other going Cripps 5 Hogan 4) - you can't get much closer than that.

Firstly congrats to Jesse, he is a star player, a great bloke and a West Australian.

However as he said himself he had an inconsistent year, Cripps was the superior player and if it wasnt for the voting panel Cripps would have won.

The fact that it was 49 our of 50 further highlights the joke of the panel. The pair where neck and neck with Cripps coming out on top, but this epitomises the incompetence that is the AFL.

I hope Cripps takes this insult and builds on it. Cripps should tear the competition apart and show these idiots just how stupid they are.

Congrats to Jesse. Use it Crippa

Congrats Hogan, well deserved. Wouldn't have been disappointed if Cripps won either.

What I do like is there is genuine quality in this years crop. Future of the game looks good.
