25 players set to be announced in April.

Given that all of Clarke/Johnson/Watson/Haddin/Harris and Rogers will not be contracted we're going to have a lot of changes.

Will be quite interesting to see what young players get contracts.

I'd expect Wade to keep his contract as the ODI keeper and the reserve keeper.

These players would be definite

1. Steve Smith
2. David Warner
3. Joe Burns
4. Usman Khawaja
5. Adam Voges
6. Mitchell Marsh
7. Peter Nevill
8. Mitchell Starc
9. Josh Hazlewood
10. Nathan Lyon
11. Aaron Finch
12. George Bailey
13. James Faulkner
14. Glenn Maxwell
15. James Pattinson

While I'm pretty confident that these players will get contracts
16. Peter Siddle
17. Jackson Bird
18. Shaun Marsh
19. Matthew Wade
20. Nathan Coulter-Nile

Pretty interested in the last five though. Hastings/Zampa etc would be strong contenders and hopefully 1-2 young batsman.

Agree with most of that list. The 6 for me would be:

James Pattinson, John Hastings, Adam Zampa, Cameron Bancroft, Travis Head, Peter Handscomb

Yeah somehow forgot Patto. He is obviously in the definite category

Not sure where I got 25 from but in the end it was 20

1. George Bailey
2. Joe Burns
3. Nathan Coulter-Nile
4. Pat Cummins
5. James Faulkner
6. Aaron Finch
7. John Hastings
8. Josh Hazlewood

13. Glenn Maxwell

16. Peter Siddle
17. Steve Smith*
18. Mitchell Starc
19. Adam Voges
20. David Warner

I wouldnt have bailey in the definite category

I'm a fan of Bailey but I'm a little surprised he kept it. He is not going to be playing test cricket and they froze him out of the T20 picture completely leading up to the World Cup, even missing the squads that didn't include the test players. So he has a full contract when he is a borderline one day player only basically.

Think the Cummins one should have went to whoever they see as the one day and T20 spinner, likely Zampa on form.

Edit: In before Maxwell is the one day spinner.

Compensation for screwing his career up?

Pretty obvious list, no standout surprises or omissions. Maybe the closest to a surprise is Siddle, who it honk maybe done.

Jackson Bird?

Bit surprised that he's behind Hastings.

Guess he isn't really in test plans

Hastings is a lock for the ODI team it seems (and so he should be), and Bird is boarderline test, so I can see why Hastings has a contract over Bird.

But if Hastings is a lock for the ODIs then how did Coulter-Nile and Cummins get contracts?

Bailey and Cummins? WTF.

Cummins played one test 5 years ago and has still only played 8 FC matches. When he actually plays a season for NSW - let alone a good one - then give him a contract.

Bailey is 34 this year, not part of our test or T20I plans and slipping down the pecking order in our ODI plans. Lucky to get a contract.

Cumings what a wank ,proves the point about getting a baggy green when you play for NSW
Jackson Bird played in the last test series and did Ok
Mr Bailey is 33 ( ask him) turns 34 in sept, a lot of 1 dayers cumming up
they added Voges who only plays tests and he is 36 !!!

Surely any first choice test player should get a national contract?
