2016 NTFA SEASON

Isn't this the reason Div 2 Clubs are unhappy? why would you bring other teams into the Competition, when it has already been acknowledged there are too many teams and not enough players? If Bridport are relying on taking players from these other clubs so they can field teams because there are not enough players in their region, it makes you wonder!

Ben laskey and Ben Haywood are 2 from south to Bridport.
Also rumor has it one of the conditions for the 2 teams were, they were not to sign any div 1 or 2 players for the first year will be interesting to see is the NTFA stand by this

I guess that they need to find players from somewhere though and if they don't get them from ntfa where are they expected to get then from?? And then there is the issue of if a player wanted to go to a club like b'port or sthelens to play how can they stop them? Blokes like nick child have gone to sthelens not sure if that would be different because he has played there before.. but what about bannister he is from tsl level so surely that wouldthe same?

just at a guess, i would have thought both clubs had enough for two team last season, also hearing from very solid information laskey has signed for $350 a game a bloke that's done nothing..
no wonder clubs struggle to get players when teams like this throw stupid money around..

Isn't Haywood assistant coach? He would be on a fair wicket too then

I was talking to a couple of the blokes at bridport the other day and both haywood and lasky are yet to sign.. apparently they are waiting to see a few more at trainings before signing.. so not really sure how anyone would know what they are getting.. lasky told a few of the south blokes he was going there cause his father is coaching I think?? I thought he was coaching at prospect though so dunno?

It is a difficult one. The main reason that the NE clubs are in the situation they are is because of the lack of employment. Now if you were a NE boy and you moved to Launceston you might want to play with a team in the NE. You may have played somewhere else, moved to town for school or a job, but want to play with your mates that you grew up with. Maybe your parents or grand parents live out that way still. So some players will have connections with the towns and head that way, and the majority will continue to live and train in Launceston, hence why they wanted to come to the NTFA.

He was coaching at Prospect but walked out due to the shit show they are in and moved to Bridport. Not sure if Prospect have resolved their issues or not but Laskey definitely isn't coaching them.

I understand what you are saying, however, The NTFA Competition board of directors have a responsibility to its Clubs and that competition. When they have acknowledged issues with declining numbers, adding extra teams, which obviously need more players, which are being drained from the existing Clubs in the competition it clearly will have an adverse impact on these Clubs and ultimately their future. The reality is that we already have too many Clubs in the NTFA to service the level of participants (declining) so adding extra teams makes no real sense. This is why existing Clubs have raised serious concerns about the direction the Competition is being led.

Interesting comments about the extra teams joining the competition, perhaps in hindsight the consequential effects of decisions should be examined and their likelihood to effect the competition or otherwise before they are implemented.
Demographics is a word that is used well and it has no doubt effected a lot of club sand Associations namely WTFA. Houn. Leven. NWCFL. Tasman and now the NEFU?
Perhaps in time we may well ask what are we trying to achieve? Do we want all our associations be the stepping stone to unearth another Daryl Baldock? or do we wind the clock back a bit and realize that people and communities are happy to participate and support local footy.
Yes there is and always will be a place for Major Leagues (NTFL-SFL) where the tempo and standard is a lot higher and of course the commitment of the players is also to be expected of a higher calibre.
But not everybody can achieve this and some are quite happy to play with their mates and partake in a lesser standard But having said that it also allows for greater participation of people and allows for communities to have something to cheer.

But demographics will have a big say but football associations should also be flexible and be adaptable to change perhaps 15 to 16 a side Reserves comp??? create a netball comp to create a greater family day and so on.

Must give the ODFA on there revitalisation and hopefully the NEFU can fin away around and continue, maybe Fingal-St Marys could provide an answer. but the sad thing is AFL-Tasmania should be promoting the game, providing assistance, guidance so the lesser associations continue. Perhaps the majr leagues could act as a big brother and where there is a emerging star provide the path in developing his career

anyone know of any practice matches coming up?

Don't know a date but Uni-Mobwray have one organised against the Uni team from Hobart. Have seen a couple of the Div 1. clubs post about practice matches on their facebook pages too, check those out mate.

Am hearing that the finals will now be a top 6 in both divisions, this will make it interesting especially for division 1. Who will be the three sides to miss out???

Sportingpulse clearances are now out, looks like North are playing hard ball with all there fringe / colts players and east coast and hillwood have a few clearances in

There is a bit in the examiner about bridport with the couple of south guys in there so they must have ended up signing there..
what else have people heard lately??
