The reffing was horrible both ways guys. The last call was lol, but we did have some go our way. We did elbow one guy in the head on one play with a few minutes left and nothing was called.

What was weird was nothing calls being made. Refs need to realize it's not about them. Let them play. Sometimes I get frustrated about missed calls late in NBA games, but you'd rather them miss a couple of fouls than make calls on nothing touches.

It's good to see the USA media thinking that last foul wasn't a foul.

Bogut gives no ****s. And deservedly so. Bullshit rigged call. That was just awful. I was pissed after the Serbia game, but I'm absolutely shattered after this one :(

so do we go down the "we're proud" route or expect better?
After sleeping on it... Proud as piss.

To go down by only 1 point in a bronze medal match against a team with way more class than us is special.

Patty Mills made himself look like a all-star. Delly was good early in the tournament.

Was a good roller coaster ride that should've ended in a medal but life goes on.

I'm going for proud but disappointed route. They exceeded expectations in the group stage, played some great ball but completely shit the bed in the semi with the chance to guarantee a medal, realistically 4th is around we're we at talent wise atm.

Watched the game last night it sucked. I'm not as deflated now. I felt Spain got some shocking decision as well. Great tournament from the guys. One bad game against Serbia when you think about it is a good effort considering where I thought this team was at. The shocking refereeing spoiled the tournament a bit for me. Never seen anything like it last night was so bad lmao.

Before the tournament a 4th place finish would have been pretty good - "we're proud"

But expectations after group play - "expect better"

Can't be disappointed with the Bronze medal game though. WE came to play. Semi Finals was an embarrassing choke though.

that's the thing. pre tourney we'd take 4th. but after some stirling wins and play we were seduced only for the inevitable.

on reflection after the wound has healed, 4th is an over achievement.

there are some posters on the olympics bball board that jinxed us after the group stage declaring a USA v Aust final. I've been given the task of going through that thread to bring those posters to account.

The Mills call was bullshit. Bogut was right though - the reffing throughout the whole tournament was trash. We still took too many bad shots and turned the ball over too easily.

Good tournament, good progress. The finish leaves a sour taste in the mouth though.

Have to be proud, though bitterly disappointed in the semi performance.

Shows how much of our performance was built around Bogut playing well though. The longer the tournament went on his lack of fitness (due to injury) and general play fell away, as to be expected. Was a miracle he performed to the level his did in the first half of the tournament.

Our glaring weakness were;
- the lack of a mobile, athletic 4 when teams go smaller, this will be fixed to a large degree with Simmons and Thon.
- lack of an athletic wing and third guard to go with Delly/Mills. THis will be fixed with Exum.
- we do need a proper back up to Bogut, but Baynes isn't bad if he's the backup C playing limited minutes.

All in all the future remains bright, would have loved that bronze though.

Baynes as our#1 C... *shudder*

He'd want to lift bigtime on his performance this torny. Was pretty poor for the most part IMO.

To be fair to him he was mainly played as a 4, which athletically and shooting wise he just isn't suited to.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because I've seen him play better & he looks like a beast at points. But people having digs at Bogut for his performance should also consider how much of a stinker Baynes had most games. It's effort & intent for me.

Comparing him to Bogut. He didn't grab boards. He didn't use post play well. He didn't pass well. Heck, he was slower between ends than the 92yo Bogut with a dodgy knee! That's either lack of effort or conditioning (or both). If he's our go to bigman (which he probably is) then he's going to need to become a more agressive, consistent & reliable teammate IMO.

Agree. Bogut is a borderline All Star though if healthy (especially before his injuries), Baynes is a backup at NBA level, and definitely not someone you want starting for even limited games. We definitely need a replacement for Bogut long term, he isn't the answer, but maybe Thon could be against teams without a big center. Force the center to follow him to the 3 point line (Thon has FIBA 3 range), will open up the court a lot, if he doesn't get pounded on the other end.

Not sure who's bagging out Bogut, but that's silly, he was lucky to play at all.
