Training 2017 Preseason

Great kid, great family, great talent....if anyone can do it he can.

It really has been surprising how quickly Skinner seems to have been back to running after this ACL. It seemed to my untrained eyes to be really, really early. Normally, I would have expected him to be only getting into running about now but he seems to have been doing a lot of running virtually since preseason began. All good news of course if he is progressing well.

I am very keen to see him get onto the field this season and perhaps get a start in the seniors for a few games perhaps later in the season. I think he can add a lot for us.

I wonder if it's because he did his knee during a warm-up IIRC. Not sure what he was doing at the time but I doubt you'd be going 100% during a pregame session so maybe the stress wasn't at the extreme end of the scale. Either way he is definitely back a lot earlier than I would expect from a knee injury like his.

Really curious as to how Mayes will go in 2017. I feel he'll have no mental distractions and will have a belter ofa season.
Mayes is a massive quandary.Does he actually have the talent to be a good AFL player,we don't know yet and it's been a while.I think he's more likely to tag along with a good team than break out on his own.Ill even settle for the former because that means we have a good team.

He does have the talent. It's a mental battle he fights imo.

I see his skills and brain are quite good but on the slow side.I think it's a matter of wether his smarts can overcome his lack of explosion

For those who have been to training can you see what kind of game plan Fagan is having us do?
From my limited viewing there was a strong emphasis on the short 30m kicks as well as the bulldogs contested style handballs.

So just connecting the dots I would assume it would be a mix of the dogs & hawks game plans.

Judging from previous training reports I reckon that's what we will expect to see.

Close definitely looks the goods
Could you play Hipwood, Schache and Close all together though?

How the he'll have we let our skulls slip so far under Leppa? Mind boggling really... Wtf have we been doing the past couple of years.

I think we may do a classic one step back two steps forward this year especially with us taking a lot of training time trying to improve basic skills but glad we have finally gotten in someone who knows how to guide and teach a group of young players.
Let's be honest it's been an issue since the last couple of years under Matthews and got worse under Voss. Our hand balling efficiency would have been terrible for years which is a concern when it's one of the easiest skills to develop.

I'm hoping Fagan is taking stuff out the Swans too and even excerpts of what teams down the ladder are doing.
A good coach doesn't just look at what is apparently currently working with the top 8 teams,he has to look into the future and also see the strengths of the list to manipulate his vision.

We've got a couple of years to try different combos.
You see the teams in contention reticent to employ different stuff because it might cost 4 points.
