Going back a year ago we put in a spirited performance against reigning b2b Copa American Champions Chile and could have easily won that game. Let's not forget we were supposed to get destroyed in Brazil and that wasn't the case, at least for the first two games. We may get belted in Russia, we may not. But we do deserve to give the Roos some credit.

Spends the last week abusing me for my hope that Socceroos might put in a decent shift.. and then says the exact same thing.

Don't change Macspud.

I may know nothing about soccer but I do know that Australia is terrible

suitable strategy and tactics can make ordinary teams competitive.

don't expect Ange's wishful philosophy in Russia. there will be no possession game from the Aussies. Bert is pragmatic. he knows what he has to work with. being competitive will depend on whether or not he has convinced the players that his way is the right way.

expect a whole lot of pressing, suffocating, and counter punching. it has to be aggressive, disruptive, and every win in a contest needs to be followed up with a quick counter punch. it won't be pretty, but it has to be effective.

Biggest question for me remains where the goals come from for the Socceroos. Struggled to score from open play during qualifying, can't see that changing with the current squad.
Rogic.
Juric
Mooy

I don't think we'll get out of the group either but I'd guess that's where our goals would come from.

Juric is likely injured which is why Maclaren will probably come into the squad.

Watched the first half of Peru vs Scotland.

Peru didn't look that great, although the inexperienced Scotland side were content to drop deep with 10 behind the ball. I'd like to think that we'd similarly dominate Scotland at home, but there's a good chance we wouldn't.

Tomorrow night's friendly will give us a good indication about how we're tracking.

First game for Socceroos is important to get confidence and get up n about... Reckon we can cause a few headaches.

Agree, the longer we hang in the more frustrated France can get, they are a side than can start infighting on the pitch and become disorganised. Concede an early one and we have had it, stay with them till the 70th minute or so and anything can happen. Remember a draw for France would be horrible and not the start they want at all.

Disagree with the comments regarding France. They've been solid for 6 years and haven't imploded at all since that last group game against South Africa in 2010. They've made the k.o stages or better the last 3 tournaments and have only lost to the eventual winner.

2012 - Spain in the quarters
2014 - Germany in the quarters
2016 - Portugal in the final extra time.

They didn't implode in any of those games. With the exception of 2012 they weren't outplayed either.

If France were going to get frustrated and capitulate they could have did it several times at Euro 16 in all of their group games and after going behind against Ireland in the round of 16. They held their nerve coming back in the latter, and in the first two group stage encounters scored at the death.

Look at who they all ply their trade with. You think these guys aren't used to getting roughed up and getting in a dog fight when need be.

Sorry but it's wishful thinking rather than fact.

With all this talk of France, I'm almost have wishing for a World Cup 2002 like performance. That will be grand.

In tournament football, anything goes. All it takes is one screw up, and you're on the next flight home.

That said, I expect it to be a good fight for 2nd. Gotta be up for the occasion!

So Guerrero is allowed to play after the rival teams said he should be allowed to play.
In before he scores key goals against the other teams..
ridiculous to help a direct rival .
