GMHBA Stadium has got to be the most atrocious name for a stadium in the history of stadium names. I mean, might as well just call it the ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Stadium.

You can't even abbreviate GMHBA.

It's a SHOCKER.

Edit: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Stadium is better because you could just call it the Alphabet Stadium.

Shocker for sure.

I'll just be calling it GBH stadium.

Gillon McLachlan on Collingwood's soft draw "Maybe on paper, but they've still got to get out there and do it" This guy has the IQ of a Polo pony if he thinks that answers the question. Gillon old chap, every team has to "get out there and do it" but a nice soft fixture will help get it done.

AFL fixturing boss Travis Auld on the 16th placed Carlton getting five Thursday or Friday games in 2018 "It's probably one or two more than we had anticipated but that's how it rolls out sometimes" It seems dear old Carlton "just got lucky again" to the detriment of a fair and equitable go at the Friday night slot for all teams based on the previous years results.

A professional game run by amateurs who lack the ability to see the big picture and will never admit to getting it wrong, ever.

I'm really surprised the AFL are allowing you 13 games at Perth Stadium with Gold Coast homeless for the first half of the year. Are there no ovals in Sunshine Coast or Gosford or Townsville they could use?

I guess they (AFL) don't rate your prospects but if you do a Richmond '17 or us '15 and have a good season out of nowhere they're going to cop a fair bit of heat for giving a Perth team an extra home game. I kinda hope you do, the fixture is a joke year to year anyway. Stuff 'em.

They evened it up by giving us the hardest possible double ups. Instead of getting 3 bottom 6 and 1 mid 6 like collingwood we got 2 bottom 6 and the 2 hardest middle 6 (essendon and port). 2 and or 5 would have to have sensational years for us to make finals, losing Weller put us back (at least temporarily).

Interesting point. I wonder if we got the game over the Eagles because the AFL rated you a better chance to make finals. Seems an absurd factor to use but nothing surprises me with the AFL these days.

Maybe our bid was higher or our pitch was better, along with many other factors.Probably never know so not worth speculating I suppose.

Huge for the club though. Especially the older lads with one less long-haul game.

I reckon it was exactly this. And the AFL was pleased they could plausibly say it was in return for West Coast getting the first game.

Imagine the moaning from the VFL clubs and VFL media if we snagged a top four spot on percentage after smashing Gold Coast at their home game in Perth.

With the AFL who knows. We scraped into 8th by a bee's dick so were hardly a powerhouse and I doubt we'll feature in flag favouritism. I don't think there's a big gulf between WC and Freo for 2018, but I am surprised they gave one WA side an extra home game given that North offering to play a home game here a few years ago was such a big drama for the (s******s) integrity of the fixture.

"This game was played at Perth Oval but was technically a home game for Canberra. Due to work being done at Bruce Stadium, specifically the resurfacing of the pitch to rid them of some pest or other, the Cosmos opted to 'give' the game to Perth for a share of the gate. This caused no end of complaints from other NSL clubs. Envy mainly."

I look forward to the moaning, many LOLs will be had.

AFL Board: "Show me the Money!"
Gil: "How about we leverage the new Perth stadium to get some better revenue than we usually get from Gold Coast home games? Townsville ain't gonna give us anything"
AFL Board: "Sounds good. Which WA team though?"
Gil: "Well WC are already very excited about getting the opener, so give it to Freo and then everyone is happy"
AFL Board: "Can smell the extra money from here... mmmm"

I might well have been at that game! Got to 5-0 in the 57th minute and then stopped :(
