No names - just hide the kid in the QAFL until the draft

If the captain of the club didn't know the kid it sounds like he has kept a low profile up until now

Ahhh. The good 'ol days. Even the QAFL games are on the net, available for everyone around the country. Not to mention if he's this years draft, he'll play champs if he's any good.

Thurls64-what would your comment have been about Rocket at the same time of his first pre-season 3 years ago?
had never taken a team all the way, was one dimensional in his game plan and when other teams worked it out he flailed, upside he was at least harder on standards regarding accountability which is what Bluey was atrocious about
Didn't know he was lazy until later and that he didn't connect with players, his age worried me as well

general consensus is we are flying, group has bonded amazingly under Dew, great culture, injuries all time low BUT untested as a playing group against AFL teams with a new game plan, focus on tackling and defense, players getting serious one on one time with Dew in development and coaching

My fear is its all beer and skittles until we confront real matches and we really see where we are, it might be dissapointing

Our forward line looks fantastic , Backline looks solid , all comes down to midfield , lot of pressure on the likes of Swallow , Lyon and Barlow and hope like hell guys like Brodie , Fiorini and Bowes step up to that level quickly.

I think that’s always been our issue..

Our blokes constantly are physically bullied off the ball because they are simply smaller and skinnier.
There’s been no mention of bulking up and hitting the weights in the off season, it’s good to hear they are practicing tackling and wrestling more though.
My expectations are very low for next year.
We could get the wooden spoon next year and I’d be probably satisfied if they put in Week in and week out like Brisbane did last season.

Hopefully, first preseason in proper facilities should make a difference. Looking at some recent videos, players like Brodie, Scrimshaw, Fiorini, Ainsworth, Lemmens, Miller all look bigger. Not sure if training all the time in oppressive hot and humid conditions is the best way to go. Lions moved a lot of sessions to late afternoon/evening. Lions also had a Tasmania's camp. Dew mentioned NZ camp which was planned for this preseason but was postponed due to extensive travelling during season.

appreciate you taking the time to write this up!

this new focus is generally how I believe the game should be played. it's also the complete antithesis of what we've been. wonder if we've got the cattle to suit this? good times.

I've read quite a few things from fans on this site saying several players have added bulk and injured players have returned looking great. Brodie and Weller seemed to be the guys noticeably bigger. It stands to reason that our guys are smaller when playing older guys and I think you're in for some disappointment because a lot of age and experience just walked out the door only to be replaced by a pile of young guys, which basically means our average age will remain the same. However, the recruitment of some guys in their early 20s and the recruits from last year getting another year older means that the second tier of players are all in a similar phase of development. It isn't a win now strategy, but it is a great foundation for improvement.

My early prediction is that there is no unreplaceable player in the top 22, therefore, form or injury will just see the next man up philosophy employed. There are more than enough ruckmen, tall forwards, tall defenders and role players to ensure the gameplan continuity. There are some pretty solid starting 22 combinations being posted, although I'm a fan of playing the most experienced guys and making the younger brigade earn their places, which would be the most likely scenario for your wish of contested footy and sustained efforts to eventuate.

Myself and those who agree that the Weller Trade will be vindicated are gonna look pretty silly should he turn out to be ineffectual, but somehow I think he's gonna be ok. This team beat a couple of Final 8 sides last year and played some bloody awesome footy. I'm pumped for a big year, but agree about being happier with the spoon as long as the side plays with passion.

What pissed me most about Weller's trade was that Weller's camp went public that Suns guaranteed the trade. From that time on Clayton stood no chance. Another point - was guaranteeing trade smart move by Suns? I don't think so. A bit amateurish by Evans. We could have both Weller and LDU. It still hurts me :)
