I wonder how he will go this season. They clearly have a plan for him given the amount of running he has put in, which is also an indicator that he is going to be active in other parts of the ground beyond the 50 metre arc.

Coupled with the reports of Mundy having an impact forward it suggests that the club is trying to find an advantage in our medium/talls, perhaps trying to get an edge in mobility. Fyfe as well of course, but he is such a great midfielder it is better he is used for shock tactics I feel.

Seems like a good idea. Kersten is probably gonna take Croziers spot, have Mundy/Fyfe alternating from FF & Midfield, add Matera/Walters picking up the crumbs and McCarthy hopefully finding form..we should do ok.

Is Cox playing back?, Will Tabs press for a spot?, Can Ballas stay injury free? I guess we’ll know in a few months!

Stephen Hill just ran laps today.
Kersten joined in the whole session today and looked pretty sharp. I didn't see Joel Hambling out there.
Tabs, Nyhuis and AP were in the gym with Tabs and Nyhuis joining in the sims late. AP sat and watched and looked to have a slight limp to my eye (hope I'm wrong).
Big Sean is slowly increasing his work load after his calf issue. I quite like the look of young Dixon.
I know people have remarked already but Sandi is in seriously good shape! As is Neale.
Logue competed in a lot of one on ones throughout and I didn't see him get beaten once.
Luke Ryan is going to be a star, just does everything right. Fyfe, Mundy and Blakely all look in great shape.
Lots of sims today with a fair bit of time spent on kickouts.

Training reports need more of my buddy!

A forward line drill working on entries involved an ALL TALLS structure.
Players in the forward roles included; Kersten, McCarthy, Cox, Apeness, Strnadica and for a welcome change for him, Hugh Dixon.
The defenders were; Ryan, Wilson, Logue, Johnson, Sutcliffe and Hughes.

Almost sounds like a defensive drill considering imo that looks like our back 6 rnd 1 (exc Hamling)

So we have the official winner of training the house down - Well done Tommy.

Nice to see when someone probably needs to lift it looks like they are doing everything in their powers to be the best they can.
Tommy for Doig - lock it in!

Could be because there is no way that is our starting forward line.
What is noteworthy is that when McCarthy was well within the 50 metre arc he was looking for a lead rather than having a shot. Hugh Dixon took a couple of nice marks on the lead.
I should also state that this was only a half ground exercise with Cam starting many of the initial kicks from just outside the arc. Clearly, a work on leading in a congested area drill, David Hale was supervising.

We may see a debut this year from Hugh. He looked like he was enjoying the different work after running 923 laps since he arrived here.

Would’ve thought first year rookies doing well in time trials means absolutely nothing tbh. Some people are just athletically gifted - it doesn’t make them good footballers and doesn’t really reflect on the rest of the group much imo.

I seem to remember guys like Crowley, Mzungu, Menegola and De Boer destroying these time trials when our list was at its peak. Menegola basically had it the moment he walked in (admittedly after a season with Hawthorn) while the other three were more your role player types. Role players typically do well in these tests across the league because they almost need to be an elite athlete in the league to survive in the system. Of course if you’re Brad Hill, Tom Scully or Lachie Whitfield it’s just another advantage they have on top of their skills with ball in hand but the correlation between being a good player (a best 22 player perhaps much higher) and time trial results would be weak at best.

I seem to remember Mundy always being crap at time trials for a best 22 mid. Doesn’t seem to affect him on game day though.
