I think for a lot of people Lowndes represents the last driver from their childhood growing up in the 90s, regularly mixing it with the likes of Brock and Johnson.

Oddly I was the opposite. Considering how rarely that happens, I was watching in awe really. Incredible drive today.

Another demolition by the RBRA team. A 9 second gap back to Scott in 3rd was incredible, after the safety car late on.

Very much the same here, even when Shane was at SBR he was just hard to like him

There’s alot of tall poppy syndrome when it comes to Whincup. I remember taking a long time to warm to him as well. I didn’t have a legitimate reason for disliking him besides the fact he won so much and he wasn’t my favourite driver

He hasn't always been the best with fans either, used to come across quite aloof, but has gotten much better over the years.

I think this is a big part of it. Can’t speak of any personal experiences but he always seemed arrogant to me. Over the last 5 years or so, I’ve actually watched him without any prejudice and he seems like a genuinely good guy. There was that thing with his almost marriage but outside of that, you can’t really say he’s put a foot wrong.
