On The Couch has made me nervous af. GWS have such an epic team on paper. Fingers crossed our style gets it done. Ouuffff

That’s their job to pump teams up. It’s a myth that they have such an epic team. They had a better team on paper in 2017 and lost the prelim. Game isn't played on paper.

2017 Giants
Ward, Scully, Shiel, Coniglio, Kelly, Whitfield, Hopper, Taranto, Greene, Deledio, Cameron, Himmelberg, Haynes, Shaw, Steve Johnson, Davis, Williams, Wilson, Patton, Lobb.

2019 Giants
Kelly, Whitfield, Hopper, Taranto, Greene, Cameron, Himmelberg, Haynes, Shaw, Davis, Williams, Taylor.

I'm getting a bit tired of how our season is continuing to be undersold. The Giants have been in the eight for the entire season. We were 9th at Round 14. They were 3rd. In the history of the AFL, there's never been a team that's come from so far back so late in the season to win the flag.

Thanks for that jynx lol

This might come back and bite me, but i think the GWS game against collingwood is a bit over hyped.
Was a rugby style slow low scoring scrappy game, (due to wet). And frankly collingwood only really pulled their finger out in the last, and really could've won the game GWS just stopped.

Plus collingwood arsed top 4, didn't think they played well leading up to finals.

The G is our fortress, we play there better then any other team

The hype is all on them because they are the Ferrari. Everyone will undersell our running ability and guys like Prestia (getting some credit now), Edwards, Lambert ect.

hmm disagree.

Bit left field but what about Townsend?

He is a known quantity come finals time.

tough, aggressive, will hunt anyone with the ball or without it, can tag, can play forward and kick goals.

I know Towner is probably less likely to play than Ross, but i actually think he might fit the bill a bit better.

we don't need someone to come in and get 25+ touches, Graham didn't do that himself. We need someone to be a physical beast around the contest.
this is the big concern for me. We lack toughness and size its been a concern all yr.
No way would i play all of Baker Ellis Short. In 2017 blokes like Townsend, McIntosh and Graham gave us that bigger body that could smash in. We also had Grigg a bigger bodied 190cm old head in the midfield and We were also better balanced down back with rance and Astbury in the key defensive posts.

While ive been concerned about these things all yr ive never really thought we were backs to the wall and had no chance of winning games i felt we had a chance to win most of them.

It may just be my temperament but this game is really the first one where i think we lose that we cant win. Get behind against this mob and i dont think they will allow us to wriggle of the hook.

I have thought the last two yrs that the team could be infinately improved, and there was a need to do so.
praying like mad we can win just one more and the concerns dont hit us when we least want them too.

The players missing from the team from 2017 are
Townsend, McIntosh, Graham, Grigg, Rance and Butler. Imo only, we havent covered the mids not with grunt or size.Nor have we covered Rance imo. but we have covered Butlers role.

the players who have come in
Lynch, Soldo, Baker, Short, Bolton and one to be named.Theres a lot of midfield grunt missing and the extra kpd in Rance.

I just cant shake the feeling we are to small and not enough hardness.

Once the crowd got going and Pies piled on pressure GWS went to absolute shit.

This is why I want Ross in the team over Macca but somehow I feel the club is leaning towards experience here. Ross can bash and crash. Even if he doesn't rack up touches he is a young big bodied mid similar to Jack Graham and helps the likes of Cotch and Martin get off the leash. It's been my concern all week really. The GWS mids are very good in the contest and in close. They made Pies mids looks second rate on the weekend. Graham is a much bigger loss then we know. He is also one that bobs up with goals in big moments. Wouldn't be against seeing Towner in the side also. We need some fair dinkum mongrel against these blokes.

Understand the concerns, however, the tale of the prelims are contrasting.
We came storming home to overcome a 4 goal half time deficit, GWS had the door shut on Collingwood and allowed Collingwood to "wriggle off the hook" to almost pinch it in 20 minutes of football.

I hope it is either Ross or Pickett.
Bring in as a sort of "demolition man" to go through Kelly, and then the other mids.
Kelly is their best midfielder.
Haynes is their best defender by a country mile, leading AFL intercept stats.
Target those two and they should be done.
Haynes has the windpipe injury recently, he would be aware.
Chris Judd said once you cross the white line and enter the field of play, you are fair game.
We can play rough too, if that's what they want.
Takes two to tango.

Not sure if its been mentioned here but we went to one of those Q&A nights about 3 months ago with Dimma and Cotch (Dimma was remarkably confident btw) and not sure how it got brought up but Dimma said his only regret from 2017 was that the players bus didnt do a detour via Swan St on the way to after match function at the casino, he said when we won this year they would definitely do that, so everyone make sure youre in Swan St will be Epic when the team bus drives down Swan St and is mobbed by the supporters.
