"Australian rules football has been played in Buenos Aires, Argentina since 1997, the Asociación Argentina de Futbol Australiano as the de facto governing body.
The Argentine Australian Football Association (AAFA) was founded and competition started in 1997 with a group of 3 teams consisting of about 30 or 40 mainly rugby union players. The league grew to four senior sides in Buenos Aires, with Under 19s sides associated with each senior team, and a growing number of juniors and school squads reported to be in creation. Serious competition began in 1999.
A 'Convicts Tour' of amateur footballer from Australia was planned in 2006 in an effort to see Argentina compete in the 2008 Australian Football International Cup, although this tour was later cancelled.
The first international match between Argentina and Chile was played in May 2008 in Buenos Aires, with the Santiago Saints winning." - Wiki

My original point was that no league overseas can thrive without Australian input.

And that has been thoroughly put to bed.
Australian Football has thrived overseas with Australian input, without Australian Input and to varying degrees of Australian input.
Australian Football has come from virtually nowhere and is now stated at approximately 9,500 players.
Please inform me of any Australians involved in this good result for Australian Football.
I know personally that the CNFA is almost Australian-free except for a handful of players in Paris.
The SANH is also Australian-free to name another.

That the 56 odd countries that regularly play Australian Football in affiliated leagues with affiliated clubs with a regular season schedule for a premiership and for numerous international Australian Football still stands.

As for thriving i marked these countries as having recent significant improvements.

I have been following these leagues for over 15 years

I have been following Australian Football overseas for 30 years now.

I know plenty about them.

Then you'd obviously know that the number of countries, leagues, clubs and players was a lot less 15 years ago.
Then you'd obviously know that the number of countries, leagues, clubs and players is a lot more than 15 years ago.
that is a good result.

I know they ALL have had significant Australian input at different times,

The original nexus is usually an Australian, or a vistor to Australia but some founders have only had a media connection.
Starting out there does tend to be a handful of Australians involved but the percentage of Australians lowers as the club/league matures.
Percentage Australian participation varies considerably with region.

The subject of development is a varied one and not for simple statements.
Development rarely follows a linear progression but rather a series of steps.
1. The founding club = the national team.
2. More clubs = a national league.
3. More clubs = regional leagues.
4. More players = metro leagues.
5. Maturity = junior, school, women's leagues, mixed leagues, flag football, indoor football, Ausball etc.

Development also depends on the investment.
1. Australian Football overwhelmingly depends on "organic growth" = the hard work of amateurs, some Australians but mostly nationals.
2. Where the AFL has invested moderately, I would suggest with development officers, this has shown very good cost benefit as in Europe. Asia and the Pacific.
the U.S.A. has been crying out for development officers for decades.
3. There are areas where the AFL invested significantly there has been significant development (not without some issues it is to be noted.)

To say that Australian Football overseas needs the "Australian connection" is ambiguous at best.
It really depends on the maturity of overseas leagues on how much, if any, they appreciate more (add hoc) Australian involvement.
There is a big difference in the situation today and that of 15 years ago.
Development officers have been a major benefit to Europe, S.E.Asia and the Pacific, especially the PNG and Fiji.
More development officers would be appreciated especially in the U.S.A. and also in a lot of other places.
The U.S.A. for example would appreciate more of an Australian connection, but only to improve on the good work that
the U.S.A.F.L. has achieved in the U.S.A.
Where the AFL has invested substantially in Australian Football overseas is complicated and cannot be expected to be uniformly practiced.

And that has been thoroughly put to bed.
Australian Football has thrived overseas with Australian input, without Australian Input and to varying degrees of Australian input.
Australian Football has come from virtually nowhere and is now stated at approximately 9,500 players.

So yes or no are you saying all the above countries have 18 a side comps played on ovals with 4 goal post at either end?

HOW do they underscore anything youve said? They are all full 18 a side competitions.

Well, allow me to repeat:
1. At least we've managed to whittle the original list of over 50 leagues to three - that's a good start! (that original list even had the temerity to include Argentina, whose facebook page hasn't been updated since 2010, yes, you read that correctly, that's 2010)
2. Are you seriously suggesting that these leagues have had zero Australian input? I mean really, is that what you're suggesting? Really??? Truly ruly??? Do you even know the origins of the Danish league?

1. I never said that.
2. Your claim was they couldnt run without significant Australian input. Just how much do you think theyve had since 1989?

Then you'd obviously know that the number of countries, leagues, clubs and players was a lot less 15 years ago.

I know that progress over the past decade has been disappointing, IN THE EXTREME

The original nexus is usually an Australian

Precisely.
It doens't just happen in a vacuum.
And to have a real league functioning needs ongoing Australian input.
There are stacks of examples of so-called "leagues" dying after one key person is no longer involved.

All of those leagues have Australians involved. At the start, in the middle, and right now.
You'd hope that after 20+ years, the game is well enough established for the locals to keep it going of their own accord.
But I have arrived at the firm view that that is a forlorn hope.
It's just too big an ask, these leagues need to maintain a constant Australian connection, and by that I mean: players, coaches, admin, umpires, game day assistance, etc, etc
What I am saying is hardly far fetched.
Are you trying to tell me that there are proper leagues out there, playing the full sized game, with more than 3 clubs, playing more than as handful of games per year, with zero Australians involved?
Is that what you honestly believe??

Well, allow me to repeat:

You can repeat all the unsubstantiated statements you like. It doesn't change anything.
Let me simply repeat my answer.

That the 56 odd countries that regularly play Australian Football in affiliated leagues with affiliated clubs with a regular season schedule for a premiership and for numerous international Australian Football still stands.

I said it usually started by an Australian, but also a visitor to Australia or an enthused media watcher.
Do you have the intelligence to realize that means that means AFCs overseas are not started by Australians.

It doens't just happen in a vacuum.

Sometimes it has. I know of a number of examples where clubs have started from nothing much at all.

And to have a real league functioning needs ongoing Australian input.

You keep saying this but give no reasoning as to why.

Precisely. There are stacks of examples of so-called "leagues" dying after one key person is no longer involved.

Where are the examples to support this statement?
Despite the occasional hiccoughs Australian Football, overall, Australian Football is significantly better overseas w.r.t. the number of countries, the number of clubs, the number of players, the range of formats, the number of women, the number of youth, the facilities and most importantly the standard.
You only have to watch the International Cups to see the standard of Australian Football rising at each event.

Well you're in luck because most of the improvement has come from the rise of nationals taking charge as they become more knowledgeable.

With these lists again.
Argentina is still there, they haven't updated their facebook page since 2010.
That has to be some sort of record for inactivity.

I beleive you have very specific requirements that seem to change with every response you get.

Well no, from the outset I used the term "Australian input"
You took that to mean the AFL, not sure why. That's your failure in basic comprehension.
Of that ludicrous list the other poster keeps putting up, a handful are genuine leagues.
Of those handful, Aussies have been involved in some capacity from day one: players, coaches, admin, umpies, game day assistance, etc.
In other words, none of these leagues have arisen in a vacuum, they have all had Australian input, continue to have Ausralian input, and need that Ausrralian input to keep going.
There are countless examples now where if the Australian input ceases, the "league" disappears, there are examples where there was one key Aussie driving it all.
That's the point!!
I'm not sure why you are having trouble following this very basic premise.

No they don't. Why is it so hard for you to understand that as clubs and leagues mature nationals take the place of Australians?
As leagues grow in numbers the percentage of Australians has decreased markedly and some have zero Australian players.
In the more recent times there has been a big push to accredit umpires from the ranks of nationals.
Even Australian coaches have disappeared from the scene.
Administrator positions were quite quickly taken up by locals as they know the local conditions best.
It is not beyond locals to acquire a piece of land, mark out an oval, install goal posts & point posts

I have checked and it appears you are telling porkies with your claims about 18 a side comps outside of Australia played on ovals.
The games up and you have been found out.
There are no REGULAR 18 a side games played on ovals outside of Australia

I have checked ...

What, were you looking for competitions that used 4 goalposts at each end?
You don't know the first thing about Australian Football as you have been found out.
if you had checked you wouldn't come up with this trash trolling talk.
List all Australian Formats overseas competitions, their formats for each club and league.

As stated similarly earlier.

":The United States Australian Football League (USAFL) is the governing body for Australian rules football in the United States. It was conceived in 1996 and organized in 1997. It is based in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
As of 2011, there were over 1,000 registered USAFL players.[3][4] There are 43 member clubs, of which 42 have men's teams (all except North Star Blue Ox) and 22 have women's teams.[1] Most of the football clubs in the United States have a traditional 18-a-side team for representative purposes and multiple 9-a-side teams running in a local league."
