Is it just JLT hype or are there other reasons Sheed is a good pick?

He’s got two weeks of the Gaff role left, plus he has taken his game to another level this preseason so I think he’s a genuine underpriced pick to start the season. And he’s even done this with Gaff playing in both JLT’s.

Think I've done enough chopping and changing for the day but if this whole mid-price madness thing is as bad as what everyone says then I am screwed.

aha its a bit like that at the moment, but i think that's where the game will be at especially the start of the season, as rookies are going to be hard to come by and with so much value, i think it could be wise, starting with more mid pricers.

Perhaps Grand Final hype?

He does seem to have turned a corner, both in the finals series and now JLT. Last 5 games for 2018 (incl. 3 finals) were 120, 84, 97, 92, 105. Not a huge sample to go by, but enough to think that the JLT may not be a fluke...

(FWIW, he's not in my team ATM, as I can't fit him with B.Crouch, Lbba, Cousins all presenting value).

McCarthy is barely trustworthy enough to knock out 50s playing forward pocket for the Lions.
Do not understand that selection one bit.

That was his role at Geelong, his role has changed at Brisbane. Playing more of a high half-forward role with stints through the midfield. Has scored 70 and 88 in his two games in this role. Just an fyi

Does seem to be a typical JLT hype player though. If you've got the extra 130k or so he's probably worth it (because rookies are effectively non-existent) but I think he'll end up 60-70 at most so I'd rather be spending that cash somewhere else.

Anyone back on board with Dunkley after today?

I held him during this week and will continue to hold him, I think his upside is just too good to refuse at the moment with others not as consistent. But will be on the chopping block early if doesn’t perform

I'd like him assuming I don't need the cash I'd get from bumping him down to a Heeney/Boak. He could go 110 if he gets that midfield role which makes him super appealing. Heeney/Boak/Billings probably all have some doubt over their positions anyway tbh so he's not alone there.

How many can really play that high half forward role at the Lions though ?
Once you have Robinson, Zorko, Rayner, L.Taylor and Christensen in that side, McCarthy gets stuck in a forward pocket with Cameron in my opinion.

With Boak presenting as a safe fwd premo, I don't feel I need to take any risk with Dunkley. He's a perfect upgrade target though, once the dogs figure out their best midfield setup. I think we will eventually see Dunkley back in the mids predominantly (like the back half of last year) and that will be the time to pounce.

He’s 305k. It’s not like it’s a big role risk 600-700k buy. I think at 305 he’s well worth a shot

Robinson yes, Zorko is a full time mid, Rayner yes, Lewy Taylor is more the forward pocket/might not even be best 22 according to some at this point, and Christo is a utility that usually starts on the interchange, who plays wherever they need him (in that he plays forward pocket, half back, half forward etc.)

anyone watch much of hanley yesterday or that game in general?
54 doesn't look like enough but he only played 3/4 so that's a 72 full game equivalent. Thats still not enough but 1st game for the PS there could be improvement in match fitness.

Interestingly his breakdown for the 3qtrs he played was 28, -2, 28.
So those 1s and 3rd quarters were excellent and demonstrate his capacity.

Suns beaten comprehensively and with an early draw of Saints, Dogs, Dockers, Blues, Adelaide, Bris, there could be a lot more points on offer for Suns and make him not a bad play for the 1st 6 weeks.

Considering WItherden to Hanley as a way of generating cash for getting rid of a less promising rookie elsewhere

Wouldn't do it if I were you. It's not so much about his capability as a player, it's more about the Suns' ability to retain possession and rack up the scores. I was considering it, and after his first quarter and their first quarter, it looked like a possibility. Once the Swans put the foot down, his scoring dried up with it. Had a good third quarter as you say, but it'd be risky choosing any Sun, let alone one who scored a 54

Definitely see what your saying
54 from 54% TOG isn't bad though in a side comprehensively beaten, especially for a guy prices at 57.
Im interested to know if his game time was more managed in that 2nd quarter also.

As I said before too, 5 of their 1st 6 weeks their opponents aren't too strong so would be looking at him as a 6 week ride to hopefully then upgrade to a Laird before the Crows draw also opens up

I just cant fit Macrae in ATM with the lack of rookie options presenting, he's now an upgrade target and hope it doesn't burn too much.
Allows for a bit more mid price madness.
Just need a crap fwd line or cheaper R2. My def & mid is right up there.
