Yeh but if he goes before 11 we have to use that pick dont we ? and we get a later pick back if the discount is there like if he goes 10.

Don't really know the complexities of how the 20% discount works in that situation. IMO the whole F/S system they've now deployed is a little too stingy, and doesn't provide enough discount to encourage the romance of having children playing at the club of the parent. Probably especially tricky for kids on the edge of elite, but with some question marks on how solid the selection would be.

I agree with what you are saying however i get the feeling that we often get players ranked much higher in our ratings than when we draft them. For instance, it wouldn’t surprise that we land a top 20-25 ranked player at pick 40-50. It also depends on our needs and list make-up too, something our list management professionals would have time to do as opposed trying to work this out in 10-20 min via an Internet forum! If this is the case, it doesn’t bode well for Finn unless we do rank him highly (Which is bleedingly obvious i suppose).
Yeah I agree. I wouldnt be surprised if we had Worpel top 20 in his draft year.

Think it comes down to what picks we end up having and the gap between our rating and the bid. If 30ish is our first, then Finn could be a steal if we rate him in the top 20, regardless of the bid

Of all the players mentioned here I'm really keen on Papley.

No injury history, the right age, great finisher and isn't a TOP line player so shouldn't cost the world in a pick trade.
Is contracted for next 3 years. Will not happen unless we were to overpay.

Abasi's right, given his contract situation, I feel we'd have to give up our first pick for him (which is overs IMO).

Our 1st pick for Papley is about par as he's a quality player, but he won't be joining Hawthorn so it's a pointless discussion anyways.

If it's not Elliott or Papley it's Dan Butler. Would cost nowhere near as much to bring him across and is the right fit in just about all categories. Yes struggled for a game in a strong Richmond team but up until late last year was easily in the best 22 every week. Premiership player with enough experience to step right in and strongly contribute.

I’m in no way suggesting a first rounder for Papley but I’m surprised at the number who aren’t keen on him - I’m no fan but he is a quality player

Yeah I think it's because we've learnt to hate him playing for the COLA kids and he has one of the most punchable heads in the competition.
