What would be better experience for a rookie coach, being head coach of your own side at a lower level, or direct assistant to the head coach in the seniors at the highest level?
Being the head coach at a lower lever, especially given you already did 3 or 4 years as an assistant in the seniors.

But I see Mitch on game day at Hawks, and at Hawks training, so he's pretty much doing both

Clarko coached an SANFL flag, and learnt a lot from 3 years as a senior coach.
Is Mitch that type, or is he better learning from others?

And why?

Because he's already got the latter experience, the former experience is most important now. Ultimately you need both for different reasons.

Senior coaching is managing an entire team and managing the coaching staff underneath you, where assistant coaches are allowed to be more specialised.

Or Clarko.
Yeah - both then! I’d imagine if clarko wants the pies job then pies would surely give it to him and with all the social media noise our club put out with Sam he’s a shoe in here.

would Clarko want to go to a club that might also be facing a lengthy rebuild with worse cap and draft ammo?

Don't know about them having a longer rebuild than us. Their midfield is superior not to mention adding Daicos next year who looks like he is ready to go round 1 next year a la Matt Rowell in his first year at GC. Their forward line is shite but once they shed more cap space this year they might have someone half decent lined up to come in like Richards from the Bulldogs. They are nowhere near as bad as what their current ladder suggests

Clarko won't leave unless he is pushed more likely that Sammy will leave
Nor should he, if he has a contract to next year.

Whether Hawthorn try to push him or not probably depends on what he is telling the board at the moment about the reasons for our poor last 18months, what plausible plan, direction and timeline for improvement is foreseen, and whether the board accept this as legitimate and plausible.

Not really, no one wants to start their senior coaching career at a club that has issues going on everywhere. He’s smart enough to know not to fall for that trap

You are kidding aren't you? That is about the biggest job in footy.

I am guessing but I think the reason Sammy wouldn't pursue it is because he is still so young in terms of coaching experience.
