Listening to sen yesterday.
Matt Rendell was saying that this years crop has so far been a tad disappointing performance wise due to the late start to the pre-season(Covid) and a clearer picture of who what where won't be known until very late in the season.
Not sure I rate his bloated opinion tbh

If the AFL article is correct about the Bulldogs FS Sam Darcy shooting into top 5 calculations then it could help provide us an opportunity to move up the draft order for a bunch of our later picks considering the dogs only have picks 17* and 72*
just go and interview him a few times and tell him we are considering bidding on him with our 1st pick

light a fire under the doggies seat. pricks have been blessed with father sons

Draft picks as of the end of this round if all favourites get up today and we trade CCJ for Gold Coasts pick 19:-

11, 16, 19, 25, 40, 41, 48.

Are we really going to have room on our list to bring in 7 players though? Houli might retire... we'll probably trade CCJ and move on 2-3 like Garth etc. so maybe. But there's a good chance we'll only have room to select 4-5.

If we do trade CCJ (a part of me would love to keep him to be honest), it might be better for us to trade him for a future pick or upgrade one of our current picks for a higher future pick. e.g. CCJ plus our 2021 2nd round pick 40 for a 2022 1st round pick - or a fringe first team player (like Ross) plus a 3rd round pick for a future 2nd round pick.

If we get creative, we could set ourselves up with a pretty decent hand not just in this year's draft but next year's as well.

I reckon 6 is the magic number.

Houli
CCJ
1-2 of Cotch, Astbury, Caddy
2-3 of Cumberland, Chol, Garthwaite, Miller, Ross, Ralphsmith, Naish (delisted/traded/moved to rookie list)

IMO
6 probables

Houli (retired)
CCJ (trade)
Naish, Garthwaite, Chol. DES (delist)

3 possibles
Cumberland. Stack delisted
KMac free agent

This will leave 29 to 31 senior listed players and 4 0r 5 Cat A rookies (Pickett, Aarts, Mansell, Miller, Stack)

We have to elevate Pickett, Aarts (both contracted next year) and either delist or elevate Stack

If we elevate 3 rookies, that mean 32 to 34 senior players on the list. 4-6 spots available
If Stacky gets delisted that means 31 to 33 senior players on the list 5-7 spots available

We could also rookie some the 2nd year players without delisting them under the new rule the AFL brought in last year.
So some of Cumberland, Martyn and Biggy could be rookied.
I left Ralphsmith off this list as reckon from what he has shown he will be a priority re-signing.

If we rookie 1 players then we will have 30 to 33 senior spots taken 5 to 8 spots available for the ND.

Houli....only dropped off because of his calf issue. He will stay till he retires I believe.
ccj.... Why trade him when his been in the Richmond system for a few years and looks ready to take the next step?
jr can’t play forever and if anything we need a back up tall forward.
stack....only young, if he settles down he could be electric for us, we would be throwing him away for peanuts if we traded him.
if anything we need a ball magnet.

Doubt that Bachar will be offered another year. I hope CCJ stays but seems likely he will leave for greater opportunity and more money.
Jack will get another year because of our lack of depth of KPF. Definitely need to prioritise this area as well as high production midfielders.

Stack is miles off what he is like in 2019. Needs to show more in the rest of this season.

We won’t get rid of a lot of players imo. Likely depending what we think of this draft we might use our picks to upgrade some of them or we might trade some into the 2022 draft. I cant see us cutting deeply it’ll most likely look like Houli retirement and then who wants traded out (Markov/Higgins). So Houli + 2/3 traded + 2/3 delisted at most imo.
