It's really not. Issue a statement that we were completely unaware and got lied to by the young girl (obviously not in those exact words).
How are we expected to know about some art from some completely anonymous artist? Reach out to the actual artist and give her the credit. Then move on and it will be completely forgotten about in a day or 2.

The club could shut all this down quite quickly if it handles it well and speaks to the original artist and come to some sort of satisfactory outcome as well as not chucking the forger under the bus.

I cant blame the club for this. This Painting has been around since 2019 in Murray Bridge, school competitions etc. This would have appeared quite legit after two years without any issues arising. The added promotion on our jumpers has brought added scrutiny.

I must admit to being immediately concerned when she said in her interview yesterday that she was inspired by paintings she had seen on Instagram .. Immediate red flag for me. I would have queried her then and there before splashing the jumper all over the media.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing!!

Ironically this is the modern way plenty of artists are getting found - someone steals their artwork and posts it on facebook/twitter/instagram/reddit and the artist goes "oi that's mine".

It's truly heartbreaking, I'm gutted for her. I don't know how she'll ever recover from this.
