I am now torn - do I believe Russel that Dow has been impressive or the numerous experts on here that have been unimpressed with his effort this season after seeing more than 1 photo and 5 seconds of video?
Us Carlton fans have been tricked into thinking players are coming on in preseason before. But in 2019 they said JSOS was flying and he had an UP year. Then in 2020 Weitering and Setterfiekd and look what happened.

2020 top super coach scorers (averages)

Walsh - 101
Cripps - 98
Curnow - 95
Doc - 92
Setterfield - 90 (108 final four games)

We’re also adding:
Saad - 98
Williams - 85 (averaged 101 in 2019 including 127 and 137 in his two finals when he played mid)

I wouldn't worry about it.

Based on what I've seen of Dow, his biggest deficiency is his ability to cover the ground for four quarters. Some may argue his disposal by foot, but he actually looks quite compact with his kicking technique now and has been more reliable by foot over the past 12-18 months.

If Dow has improved his endurance and can cover the ground like Murphy does, he'll likely have a breakout year.

Dow's game will probably resemble Clayton Oliver's in time, who isn't the biggest player going around. He's just really hard at the contest.

Maybe you are thinking of Fraser Phillips?
Which while on that subject I see he is training with the VFL squad which is great news as he has a lot of potential and if not for Covid cuts would still be on our list.

Yep

His odd brain fart re: Freo game doesn't help his cause.

Look at how big Weiters' triceps is....firmware upgrade BigTricepsv3.175 is working nicely.
Next to be be installed is BigHeadv2.0. It's definitely lagging behind every thing else.

Can copy the file from c:\watson_m\

I find it hard to believe that Marchbank is still injured, it feels as if he’s always about to resume full training but never does. I can’t even remember what his current injury is.
croup.........

High hopes for the break out. Hopefully we’ll hear Stocker’s name regularly from the coaches as a standout performer on the track > practice games.

Break out, after playing a massive 5 games? Give it time, same with Dow, people expect far too much way too quickly.

Both of them would need 100 games to REALLY see what they've got and I hope we put Stocker in the midfield where he belongs and don't do the usual Carlton shenanigans and put him in defense.

His kicking is horrible and has been for a very long time, I would be shocked if he's suddenly become more reliable at kicking.

Curious to see how you've seen he's improved his kicking when he's played once in 2020, Training videos?

In 2019 he was 2nd worst kicking efficiency in the league, behind Viney.

Desperately needs to improve that and not playing any games certainly isn't going to be helping.

Worst shot than Cripps at goal and that's saying something, huge difference between match simulation and real thing.

And lol resemble Clayton Oliver, I know he's a Carlton player but come on now. Lets actually see something from him first.

Takes years to build the endurance and add size and strength to get young players up to scratch, particularly where the game is at now.

It's great to hear we're aiming to get bigger and stronger, means we're hitting maturity.

We've gone from being physically monstered. To being able to compete both physically and run wise. If we use it, if we work hard and play tough, we should start to beat teams physically and with run and compete with the top teams.

Teage or Russell stated that they want our blokes to be physical and move the ball quickly. I can't wait to see this game style!

My 3 tips from our squad to breakout this year are
1 - McKay
2 - TDK
3 - Fisher

Obviously I could be very wrong, but just a guess/hope 😁

Jeez Stocker looks in great nick

The most exciting thing I have read this summer at Carlton training. After the criticism he copped last year, to see him in such great shape snd working his arse off is so pleasing to see

For those who didn't get to see him play, Teague was the gutsiest player I've seen in the Navy....well, along with Hickmott....but he was bordering kamikaze.

Constantly got smashed from pillar to post putting his body in the firing line, and was rewarded with the 2004 Robert Rose Award as the most courageous player in the league, as voted by the players.

I absolutely loved Teaguey as a player....had the looks of a Greek God, but tough as a Mexican middleweight :thumbsu:
Wished he coached with the same courage as the way he played.

He certainly rolls the dice with attack like he did his personal well being.

Too much so for my liking, but at least we should get to see some 10 goal wins this year. Just dunno if it stands up in finals.

Club has been tight-lipped with regards to McDonald, Moore and Maher.

Last season we had Ryan Sturgess, Callum Moore, Lukas Webb and Jordan Cunico training with us to secure the final list spot. Sturgess was the most impressive in our practice match against Collingwood, however, we ended up going with Moore due to the injuries to our KPP's at the time.

We delisted quite a number of talls last season including BSOS (KPD), Finbar (probably more a utility type), Goddard (KPD) and Macreadie (KPD). Our tall stocks down back are probably a bit thin at the moment as we didn't replace any of these guys. Most on here would probably have McDonald ahead of Moore as a KPP option. For this reason, McDonald would be in with a strong chance to secure the final list spot.

None of the so called tall backs we delisted would have offered anything in the event of an injury to Jones or weiters. I think we are covered adequately with marchy, Levi, McGov, Parks and Kemp without looking at proven duds like Mcdonald

Time in the system is there now for LS. Better understanding & maturity with it, and there’s no reason he can’t cement a spot as a 3rd year, reliable AFL player, he has the attributes. Look at the seasons from Hunter & Coffield at STK last year (Dow’s draft year) but improvement & consistency should be on the radar now. Have a look how Mr S. Walsh goes about things & implement.

Agree re: midfield. Play to the players strengths & best position + we’re apparently still crying out for midfielders & we have one with great disposal, hopefully ready to go.

Marchy - Regularly injured, honestly don't know how many games he will play this year, if any
Levi - Will be covering up forward for Charlie for most (if not the whole) year
Gov - Don't know if I can trust him to take on a proper key forward, most likely spending the majority of his time as a forward
Parks - A little undersized to take on a proper key forward, unproven in the senior system
Kemp - First year after ACL, body a little underdeveloped, unproven

Personally, I don't think we're adequately covered in not only our KPD, but also KPF stocks. Taking McDonald for me, is a no brainer. I think his best is underrated.

Rebecca Wilson has a great article in the Australian today where Bruce talks about various players pre-seasons. Dow once again gets a mention as a player who was told the areas of the game he needs to work on and has come back clearly having worked on them.

Durdin also gets big wraps with Bruce saying he would be surprised if he doesn't play senior footy this year.
