Geelong to collapse. Carlton, Swans and Giants to surprise
Nah Geelong have the structural advantage of Kardinia Park. They rarely lose there, like your mob at the Gabbatoir. Geelong will stay in the 8 on theback of KP wins, but again uncompetitive in finals. Too old. Too slow.

Im shocked at the optimism around hawthorn. I can see this getting very ugly, very quickly for them next season.

I'm not seeing a lot of optimism for us in here?

I feel the opposite. I'm wondering why a team who finished 14th with 7 wins and 2 draws (8 wins on points) and is adding Gunston and Sicily to a list who lost no players of significance is suddenly a popular spoon contender?
Don't say the Clarko factor. He has been well beyond his best as a coach for years now.

I just dont see any A graders at all.

Extremely slow midfield, lack of talls to kick to, Gunston a complete unknown and Sicily returning off a big injury.

You simply have to factor in that you have untried coach as well, who knows how it will go.

Kosi and Lewis up forward. McEvoy will play mostly forward also. 3 big marking targets there.

Tom Mitchell is an A grader whether people want to admit it or not. The second half his season this year was immense. Also hasn't done a pre-season since his Brownlow year.

I envision Wingard playing a lot more time through the guts. Nash is quick and Sam loves him. You're also ignoring that we may draft a speedy mid between now and 2022.

Mitchell is highly regarded. Took his VFL team to 3rd spot in his first year. Eagles players credit him more than the other line coaches for their 2018 flag. We have plenty of reason to be optimistic about his coaching ability.

Hawks fans worry we'll perform a little better than we should be. We need another year of high draft picks to nail this rebuild, but our list looks more likely to be around 10th/11th than down the bottom to satisfy that requirement.

Thats fair enough, understand those points entirely.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

We were terrible against bad teams last year but pretty decent in games against good teams. That is why you will probably see more mixed views.
Some will think a team that can beat Sydney, GWS, Brisbane, Bulldogs and draw with Melbourne as not a bad side. Then others will remember some really bad losses against GC, North, Adelaide and think they are a really bad team

Tom Mitchell, James Sicily both 100% A Graders. Players like Jaeger who before his concussion and soreness for 1-2 weeks, he was averaging 30+ touches with 10 clearances or there abouts. Wingard was unreal post bye and is A Grade at his best, Gunston it goes on. It's all about being consistent which the buzz will be high with a new coach and everyone fit.

Agree. Also people forget that there is so much untried talent on the list with Saunders, Callow, Seamus and so on, Callow as a defender, Jeka playing more games, the soon to be draftees.

Titch as you said hasn't had a pre season since 2018 when thinking that he was close to the top 5 in the brownlow this year and his immense second half of the year where he was arguably the best in the comp.

Mitchell isnt an A grader, just does not hurt teams. 8 goals all year.

Sicily is coming off a career defining injury. I hope he comes back fine as hes a great player, but its an unknown.

If Jaeger was an A grader why didnt anyone come for him in the trade period? Hes a B grader, B+ at best.

Wingard potentially A grade ill pay that. Gunston only hit 50 goals once in past 5 years, hes not A grade.

Mitchell was the best midfielder post bye and averaged about 0.8 goals per game post bye to go with his disposals, clearances and overall impact. He's better than any North mid and is 100% an A Grader.

It's not unknown, never relied on his athleticsm.

B+ overall, A Grade at his best and was close to his best this year.

Gunston was 3rd in the Coleman in 2020.

So your saying he is an A grader or B+ overall?

None of those guys are A graders.

1. Melbourne: The youngest team in the finals. Will only get better.
2. Port: A big home ground advantage so will do well in the H&A.
3. Sydney. Better young kids than most give them credit for. Play will energy.
4. Dogs: Natural improvement of young players but probably less favoured by the umps in 2022 than 2021
5. Brisbane: I've never rated them as much as others. Zorko, Bailey and Cameron are their only dangerous players.
6. Richmond: Ageing list. They won't be half as scary once Riewoldt finishes up.
7. Essendon: A good young list. Further improvement should come from the kids.
8. Geelong: Retirement village. Geelong will be the victim of Scott's stubbornness and inability to recognise that a rebuild is/was needed.
———————
9. St Kilda: Have a better list than previous ladder finishes.
10. Carlton: Unhealthy reliance on Walsh.
11. West Coast: Not half the team without Josh Kennedy in his prime.
12. Freo: Will they ever play Serong in his natural position full time with healthy TOG%?
13. GWS: Toby Greene, what a leader.
14. Collingwood. Hi Ned Guy
15. Hawthorn. If they get their kids right in this draft it'll be a quick rebuild.
16. GC: Deserve to be higher than Adelaide. Rowell and Anderson must produce
17. North: Will Phillips and No.1 pick will generate energy into the group.
18. Adelaide. Spooners
Can you elaborate on Serong? Are you saying he’s been played out of position but still won pretty much every best young player award he’s been eligible for plus goal of the year in just his second season?
Which position is he meant to be played in? HBF?

Or if you could read, B+ overall (injuries and so on) and A Grade at his best.

Your comment was "100% an A grader"

He's not at all. He is an accumulator. Doesnt hurt anyone. opposing teams are happy when he has ball in hand, as he has atendancy to go backwards or laterally.

Theres a reason all players over 26 were floated to be traded, they are all replaceable as they arent A graders.

Titch is 100%, Jaeger is B+ who is A Grade at his best, which is pretty common.

Titch was almost top 5 in the brownlow with no pre season, was the best mid post bye, post bye he was kicking goals, having 36-37-38+ disposals to go with clearances, tackling pressure and winning it at the source.

You're just wrong, you clearly don't watch him play. Because he also gets tagged x

They aren't replaceable and some are and some can be A Grade.

The all over 26 was bs and not true. They weren't floated, open to trades (like every team), if someone offered 3 first rounders for Dusty, Richmond would do that.

From 2021 finals to 2022 finals:

Out: Geelong ( their time to miss and finally getting young players for once and it will hit home they just cant just keep on topping up i can see them back there in 2023 but not 2022) and Essendon ( over acheived in 2021 the realty will hit home in 2022 bombers just arent that much good to be honest)
In: StKilda and either Freo (showing promise)or West Coast (last chance salon before re building in 2023)

Still going to miss: Richmond (depends on Dusty) tigers have a feel of been there done that feeling about them and just content of their 17,19 and 20. Methinks they will just plod along Dusty is the key. Expect end of 2022 a raft of retirements.

Top 4 no order: Dees Dogs Sydney and Port
Bottom 4 no order: Crows,Suns,North (still there) and Essendon (fall flat after a blowen up 2021 i feel they over acheived and the reality will sink in 2022 and drop off)

In between and very close to each other: Pies,Blues,Hawks these 3 will be on similar possies on the ladder through 2022.

Should make finals are: GWS,Brisbane and StKilda ( to break their duck of finaless seasons)

Sneaky chance of making it: i have the likes of Blues,Freo there and the saints really should make it if not they back to square 1.

On the rise: Pies and Hawks

Possilbe GF match ups:

Dees and Dogs again
Dees and Port
Port and Dogs
Sydney and dees,dogs,port

I can see Brisbane finally making it.
I cant trust brisbane and port making the gf seam like they flop in the finals.

You'd know, Titch dominated you in the draw and Jaeger was almost BOG in our loss to you.

That's the stupidest argument, you're using a two game sample size to justify them being A graders and they didn't even win either of those games.

There's a reason no clubs answered the phone when the Hawks tried giving them away.

LOL, maybe because we were asking for an arm and a leg. Titch was the best mid post bye, period.
