2022 Richmond draft picks (& deathriding North)

It is only fair that we get the first pick on the second night. Think we have a fair case to argue that pick 19 is valuable being the first pick on the second night and that we strategically traded for Norths future second and shouldn’t be taken away from us.

If they want to make North more competitive they should give North a top 10 pick and make them trade it for an experienced player/players to try and get clubs in a bidding war for the pick.
What's fair and what happens doesn't often align in the AFL. Particularly for us. The first pick of the 2nd round has been gold the last few years and I'll be pissed if North are handed it.
All good if they aren’t allowed to trade it, giving us the first tradable pick on day 2. Watch the AFL deflate that party.
The advantage of having the first pick of the 2nd round is being able to take time to assess any sliders from the 1st round and listen to any offers overnight from other clubs wanting to swoop.

Yeah, North a likely to get another pick.

But we still have a great pick that can be used to get a really solid player or trade.

North has done us a great favour.

If we can trade for Hopper (say) and still get a top 20 pick then we walk away this year like bandits.

I cannot see how the AFL cannot grant a PP to North. 2 spoons in a row and basically zero wins for the season. There one and only win was because the Eagles had 14 players out with Covid and the match should have been cancelled. Like it or not if the AFL does not grant a PP here then they could no longer ever warrant handing one out again.
Why should they get a PP?
They turfed Ben Brown out by withdrawing their contract offer. They were happy to get multiple draft picks for him. Tarrant they could have kept but undervalued him.
They delisted Trent Dumont, Shaun Higgins, Mason Wood, Tom Campbell, Shaun Atley
Those players would have strengthened the club, but it was norf’s choice to offload them
They delisted 11 players in 2020 and delisted another 4 in 2021. Plus the others traded out.

They overpaid for Jared Polec, Jasper Pittard among others
Picked up Corr, Greenwood, CCJ, Bonar.
Clubs have to be responsible for their own decision. Delisting 15 players (plus trades where they had the choice to retain those players but chose not to) within 12 months was always going to bite them.
I‘m fed up with these clubs that make shit decisions and go running hat to the afl for a handout. That then affects other clubs

Not sure any of those guys would have made much of a difference at all. Dumont maybe. Higgins was traded to Cats for pick 30 from memory which was a great deal for North. They did offer Tarrant 2 years in the end, he still chose to leave.

I think they do need some assistance but more like a GC deal where they get an extended list and extra rookie picks. Give them a bigger salery cap for all I care just don't give them early picks. **** em

This could be the year finally load up on the rookie draft again with Stack and Pickett needing to be upgraded and Parker and Aarts looking unlikely to be around. We've got a better record finding diamonds in the rough from the rookie draft than late in the national draft. Just go for the small blokes that everyone else overlooks.

With the talk of North possibly getting a priority pick at the end of the first round basically means they didnt lose anything getting a VFL player.

Also talk of Brisbane getting Ashcroft by trading McStay to Collingwood for picks pushes our pick down again.

They will most probably pick another spud or trade it for a vfl player

McStay is a free agent - there'll be no picks involved. And late 2nd round compo at best for the Lions too, so no problems there.

As for priority picks, there's no bigger asterisk attached to future achievements in the game.

There will be if De Goey goes as a FA which is looking 99.5% likely at this point

North would have to be the least fun opposition team to deathride seeing they are already well and truly dead
Sending them to Tassie is the only chance thay have IMO of getting any soul back. They've had their chance when Punter and Brayshaw came in and are back in a worse position, even though they claim to be debt free.

Emotional decisions don't work, the AFL need to grow a set and do what is right.

I've thought for a long time now that there is no way the AFL will let us have the first pick of the 2nd round.

They'll award a pp to north for sure or if WCE finish last they'll leave it be.

Pick #64 will be a Gun

I don’t believe giving North the first pick of the 2nd round as a PP would actually solve the problem of where they’re at. Would have to think if the AFL are going to give them anything then it will be a first after their first (pick 1&2) or a mid first round pick.

They won't be going to Tassie.

It does not matter that North have been incompetent in there list management. I agree with what you’ve stated, however, the AFL will make an assessment based on their current predicament. Other teams such as Carlton and of course GCS have stuffed up list management and have been handed PP’s. North will also be handed a PP. The only question is will it be a top 2, mid round 1 or start of round 2 pick.
