Someone needs to tell these commentators that it wasn't a free kick a half time because the player kicking out played on outside the goalsquare first.

The real ump blunder was missing what looked like a push in the back to the Essendon player, might have been Tieney.

Credit to the Saints for the way they crowded the Essendon forward-line and the girls needed that match because while we like them winning by 10 goals, but they will face greater defensive pressure at AFLW level.

Yep. Good to be challenged, especially as the AFLW is wrapping up and many teams will get their AFLW players back now. We need to be ready for the second half of the season

From what we saw live (without the benefit of the vision), is the Sainters defender turned in the goal square, took one step in her kick, but was still within the goal square as she kicked it.

Yeah I can't tell from the footage where her foot was, but the ump can clearly be seen calling play on. If she was still in the goalsquare when kicking then the play on call was the mistake, not the out of bounds. Anyway, plenty of iffy calls both ways, just another match really.

VFLW Bombers salvage draw against Saints

The VFLW Bombers maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

By essendonfc.com.au - 1 hr ago

Essendon's VFLW side salvaged a draw against the Southern Saints at the NEC Hangar on Sunday to maintain its unbeaten start to the 2022 season.

In a topsy-turvy encounter, the Bombers surrendered a 14-point half-time lead to trail by 14 at three-quarter time, keeping the Saints scoreless in the final stanza to secure the 7.4 (46) to 7.4 (46) draw.

The Bombers looked destined for their first loss, until Courtney Ugle converted a 50m penalty from the top of the goal-square to level the scores with two minutes remaining.

MATCH CENTRE: PLAYER + TEAM STATS

The fourth-placed Saints provided the first genuine challenge for the Bombers, who were without the club's inaugural AFLW signing Georgia Nanscawen (knee) and star recruit Sarah Ford (managed).

Irish recruit Joanne Doonan stepped up in midfield in Nanscawen's absence, collecting 13 disposals and a game-high seven tackles.

Fellow recruit Amelia Radford continued her ball-winning ways with team-highs in disposals (19) and clearances (six), while Federica Frew and Kendra Heil led the goalkicking with two apiece.

The second-placed Bombers will have a bye this week, before another tough assignment against Geelong at Deakin Oval on March 27.

They're expected to regain co-captain Nanscawen, while talented recruits Bella Clarke and Bella Ayre are set to be available for selection.

Disposals: Radford 19, Ashley-Cooper 18, Marshall 18, Zanchetta 16

It looks like we can sign up to 15 AFLW players (defined as players who played at least 1 AFLW game in 2020-21 season) in Phase 2 of the VFLW comp, which starts now that the AFLW home and away season is over – after the bye.

I wonder if those players will end up as our AFLW players, or perhaps try-outs for our AFLW team? 🤔 I think we can't technically sign anyone from another club until the signing period opens, but it could give us a glimpse.

I'm also kinda confused if we're AFLW aligned or not. VFLW rules says no:

AFLW article says yes:

And we have 30 primary listed players... which would be VFLW standalone club rules. AFLW aligned clubs have 20 VFLW players and can have their non-playing AFLW players play each week. Of course, we don't have AFLW players to draw on during Phase 1, so are we VFLW standalone for Phase 1 and AFLW-aligned in Phase 2? :drunk:

Also, ooooh stats 👀

Remembering that a whole game is 80 minutes with no time on (except for serious injuries when the umpire calls for the clock to be stopped). 30 touches or 6 goals in a game is actually kind of amazing, one touch every 2.5 minutes!

Thanks for the info, been wondering how it was supposed to play out. Fairly certain she is contracted for next season, but I would like us to make a serious play for Chloe Molloy when she is out of contract.

Such a talented player, been used as mainly a forward target of late by the Pies. Totally wasted, throw her in the middle, reminds me of Stringer at times.

In terms of actual list build there’s a thread;

But hopefully this is a preview 😊

Back after the bye week to play Geelong at 1pm on Sunday – can all but guarantee the girls will put on a better show against the cats than the boys did last week!

Also, Sarah Ford has signed with Sydney's AFLW team – Sydney announced it, but Essendon hasn't commented :( (rude)

Ford not named… signing with Sydney for AFLW next season wouldn’t impact our VFLW yet would it?

😆 and the feed dropped out. Score reads Geelong 6 Essendon 1, but there's a bloke with a South African accent asking someone if he can fix the scoreboard because it's wrong... seems to be on the phone or something. :drunk:

sah professionall

don't know if the score is accurate or who did what coz I can't see!
