List Mgmt. 2022 Senior List - The Final TWO Spots

Meant to start this last week. Better late than never I guess.

As we know, with Liam Jones stepping away from the game we had the opportunity to sign a replacement via the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period.

Josh Cripps, Tyreece Leiu and Michael Lewis all spent time at the club vying for that spot, however the club ultimately decided to leave the spot vacant, opting instead to carry a selection into the mid-season rookie draft.

Thought this would be a good place to track the above players through the first half of the season, as well as any others who you think may be worth looking at.

We can also use this thread to discuss our Covid top-up player list. Last week the AFL announced all clubs are to nominate a pool of 20 non-listed players that they can draw from should they need additional numbers to navigate Covid regulations.
There have been a few names thrown around but I've seen no names linked to Carlton yet, though I suspect we'll largely draw from our VFL squad. I am not sure if these lists will be made public until they are needed.

Anyone heard any names? Any very early thoughts on the mid-season draft?

The Contenders

Train on players:

1. Josh Cripps
2. Tyreece Lieu
3. Michael Lewis

Reserves players (who I believe have spent time training with the senior side):

4. Jesse Glass-McCasker
5. Ben Crocker
6. Ned Cahill

Will Hayes is the second best mid in the 2's right now.

Don't know much more than his numbers and highlights have looked good

Hilder looks pretty handy in this under 18 video ArrOw. :heavycheck:

Thanks for that. Like what I am seeing, another decent SANFL game forward/ruck. His highlights from carnival and underage in defence are excellent. Certainly draftable. Still a kid developing as a KPP. Looks a great mid season investment if the psyche/social profile is OK. Appears unlucky not to have been drafted.

Nice spot Arr0w

Dyson Hilder, 21, 196 98, plays both ends

He looks a good prospect…

What was the knock on him to go undrafted?

His agility and improving his work below the knees

Hilder is a poised, composed key defender with outstanding ability to read the play and coordinate the rebound.

Late starter to footy, was a soccer player. Was invited to draft combine, ran 6.38 in the 2km.

As Arr0w said, weaknesses were agility and ground ball stuff.

Played a few senior SANFL matches in his draft year (2019). Was projected to be a late draft pick (40-70 according to AFL Draft Central).

SANFL avg stats:

2022 (2 matches): 15D, 8M, 2G, 5TK, 5HO
2021 (17 matches): 10D, 4M, 1.4G, 3TK, 7HO
2020 (6 matches): 9D, 3M, 0G, 2TK, 0HO

Purely going off stats it appears that he was played as KPB in 2019-20 and then swung fwd in 2021-22 (with stints in the ruck).

If we were going by our VFL team alone then Xavier Maher is well ahead. I know he’s a mid, not a KPP, but have really liked what he’s delivered.

Hope we're not going by our VFL team alone then.

Absolutely must target a mature KPD or ruck/forward. And by mature, I mean 20-24yo. Someone who can perform ASAP if called upon, but also has scope for more development.

We had a few train with us in the off season and subsequently sign with the VFL team.

Cripps
Lieu
Lewis
Hayes
Cahill
JGM

Still a way to go but only Hayes has put his hand up with early season form. And I doubt we go down that path.

Almost certainly we’ll look beyond our VFL side. At a minimum we’ll want to strengthen it after a strong start to the year.
