Went to a footy function last week and heard a great Barassi story.
From someone you would not know, but he knew Ron.
Back in the 1960s or 70s this person had a fundraiser for his local cricket club where he was hoping Ron would attend.
He rang Ron on the Thursday night hoping to get him on the Saturday night.
Ron told this person he had two functions he was already booked in for on that night.
Then Ron asked him 'what time does the function start?'.
It was close to where Ron lived and the function started at 6. Ron needed to get to his first function by 7:30.
Ron turned up at 6 and greeted everyone at the cricket club shaking hands with everyone, he even grabbed the entrees and made sure he served every table to make them feel included. At 7pm Ron said goodbye and went off to do two more functions.
That's the sort of bloke Ron Barassi was.
