Hear you Zack, few of us sit there. Every year the renewal comes........and every time l justify it.
We get our 4 Hobart games back we'll all be happier.
I'm not sure if they will be signing a new Hobart deal, not one game in Hobart last season got 10000 so I don't think the government gets much out of it anymore.

AFL 2023: All fixtures news and updates for next season; Hawthorn v Essendon round 1 request
www.heraldsun.com.au

Hawthorn has requested to play arch rival Essendon in round 1 next season to help celebrate its 40-year premiership reunion.

The Hawks have asked the league to lock-in the marquee fixture four decades after it trounced the Bombers in the 1983 premiership decider by 83 points.

Clubs have begun submitting their fixture requests for the new season but the league confirmed it was still at least one month away from confirming the schedule for the 2023 season.

The league wants to kickstart the season with a blockbuster round 1 including the traditional Thursday night clash between Richmond and Carlton.

An early-season Collingwood versus Melbourne clash would also deliver one of the most anticipated match-ups of the season when former Magpies’ ruckman Brodie Grundy takes on his former teammates after he was traded out this year.

The AFL is also considering a 24-round season next year including a same-city super round where all nine matches are staged in one city, most likely across multiple venues.

Sydney is the frontrunner ahead of Adelaide, which is also keen.

Essendon and Hawthorn share one of the most intense rivalries of the modern era following a series of brutal encounters throughout the 1980s and the famous 2004 ‘line in the sand’ game.

Hawthorn’s 1983 premiership featured some of the greatest names in Hawthorn’s history including Leigh Matthews, who kicked six goals in the premiership decider, Dermott Brereton, Michael Tuck, Gary Ayres and Peter Knights.

A Hawthorn-Essendon round 1 clash would also mark Brad Scott’s first game as Bombers’ new coach and pit two of the league’s youngest teams against each other.

Former Port Adelaide wingman Karl Amon would step out in Hawthorn colours for the first time, while new Bombers Will Setterfield (Carlton) and Sam Weideman (Melbourne) could also make their debuts in red and black.

The Hawks will unveil a new-look midfield after trading Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn) and Jaeger O’Meara (Fremantle), with Sam Mitchell set to hand the keys to the engine room to James Worpel, Dylan Moore, Will Day, Josh Ward and potentially former Cat Cooper Stephens.

Hawthorn has requested Essendon in its first home game of the season at the MCG in a bid to draw a bumper crowd and help celebrate a dominant period in the club’s history.

The last clash between the two sides at the MCG in 2018 drew 68,857 in Round 20 as the Bombers narrowly missed out on finals and Hawthorn bowed out in straight sets.

The AFL opened the 2022 season with a rematch of the 2021 Grand Final between Melbourne and Western Bulldogs but it remains unclear whether Geelong and Sydney Swans will meet in the same round 1 Wednesday night fixture next year

i've never heard it reported on that any other club "requests" to play those game
Maybe don’t try and throw us under the bus and blame us for the turnouts when you’ve lost by a nearly combined 200 points and we can try and build it together instead of trying to rely on a big club to make it work for you if you want to be taken seriously in regards to the fixture 😂

“We have, obviously, played the Dogs over the last couple of years, but I am also conscious our biggest crowd we have ever had (on Good Friday) was against Essendon, over 40,000. It’s up to the AFL to which way they go.”

who the f*ck asked you, brave?

The AFL has told clubs they will each receive a $500,000 windfall from the 2023 Magic Round and will be able to spend $200,000 of that money on extra football department spending.
And the AFL’s players are set to be given $200,000 extra per club by the league for the initiative which will see them forced to play an extra AFL game per season.

The league is closing in on a venue for the late April initiative which will see all 18 clubs in one state playing nine games across a given round.

The extra round of football will replace a pre-season contest with Sydney and Adelaide vying for the right to host the games.

Clubs have been informed by the league that it will provide them with $500,000 of extra funding as a result of the 23rd contest, which has effectively turned into a bidding war between states.

Someone, maybe King Corey did a post back when Brad was coach that compared ourt first rounds to other clubs and the number of interstate games we got and the extra kms etc etc.

it was pretty wild when you actually looked at the detail and compared what we got to other clubs. How far we travelled, how many interstate games or games at Geelong. Completely out of whack.
and several back to back 6 day breaks which included interstate travel.....to which brad would say, it doesn't matter we'll play anywhere anytime.

What are the chances that the Port Adelaide "home"game is in Hobart? Maybe lower because of the game last year and the turd?
I have the feeling we'll play them once and it'll be in radelaide, afl will go all "player welfare" bollox....would be the opening game of the season at the G if it was up to me. Hand out, "go home cry baby" placards to all in attendance.

WTF is a "magic round"????? Hardly need David Copperfield to come in and make JHF disappear, did that of his own accord.

AFL 2023 fixture news: Hawthorn, North Melbourne request games in Tasmania
www.heraldsun.com.au

The AFL wants to schedule four home games each for Hawthorn and North Melbourne in Tasmania next year in-line with the two clubs’ fixture requests for 2023.

Tasmania has threatened to withdraw its support for AFL games in the state unless it is given its own team as part of an AFL licence from 2027.

Clubs widely expect the Tasmania team to receive the green light pending final details of the club’s finances and new stadium build.
With the 2023 fixture set to be released in the next four to six weeks, the league is again planning to play four Hawthorn games in Launceston and four North Melbourne matches in Hobart next season.

The two clubs on Thursday confirmed they had requested the clashes in the Apple Aisle as they work to renew agreements with the Tasmanian Government to play there next year.

It would be a win for both clubs, who have had strong commercial deals to play home games in Tasmania, with Hawthorn raking in as much as $4 million a year from the arrangement.

About half of that is made up of sponsorship money and the other half is made up from gate takings (about $500,000 per match) from playing at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston.

The Hawks have strong connections in Tasmania with about 9000 members from its 22-year association.

Hawthorn bosses have continued talks with the Tasmanian Government in recent months while the AFL has worked to secure league-wide support for a 19th licence in Tasmania.

An AFL spokesman said the league continued to hold productive discussions on the new team and new stadium.

“A potential 19th license for Tasmania is an important and major piece of work and requires consultation with many stakeholders,” the spokesman said.

“This work is a priority, and it continues.

“As we said post the commission meeting in September, the AFL and the Tasmanian Government agree that a new stadium is important to the success of a new club and the Tasmanian economy – and we agree that we will solve that together.”

North Melbourne is in the final stages of talks on a new deal with Spirit of Tasmania after clinching a new deal with major sponsor Mazda.

But the Kangaroos will be desperate to improve their on-field performances at Blundstone Arena after losing their four games there in 2022 by an average 48 points a match.

We will play Port on a Friday night.
Not Round 1. But in the first month of the season for sure.

Unlikely. Given we'll also have Good Friday in the first month. Personally, reckon Clarko vs Hawthorn on a Friday night early in the year has more appeal.

But, haven't had a Friday night start against anyone since 2019 so have one against anyone would be nice.

are all the games going to be at adelaide ovel or does football park make a comeback
The Crows AFLW play at Unley, so I guess that'll be an option.
Beyond that, no idea what else can take a reasonable crowd.
If the AFL dare play at Alberton, I will pay for 10,000 supporters to go across and make it a living hell!
