I find the talk of a Pickett "bump" laughable.
It wasn't a bump - it was Pickett deliberately launching at Smith - a bad sort of shoulder charge of sorts - aimed at the head....could have killed him.

Pickett shirt fronted a bloke who had disposed of the ball.
Lucky he is short and Smith was not knocked out.
AFL punishing this one on outcome and not the act itself.

Worth every cent of the fine to Tom and Carlton -for quite a few reasons - cheap deal at 2K.
We know the Tigers mantra, if an opponent is going to kick the ball to a teammate that is free up the ground, they will deliberately hit/tackle the kicker hard, even if it's late.

Given it's become a thing to pretend that ruckmen don't use their knees at a stoppage, I'm not surprised, take the fine & move on.
The AFL and their "outcome" crap flies in the face of them supposedly wanting to protect the head, and it will be the AFLs fault when a bloke gets his jaw broken because they didn`t punish those intentional hits more heavily like you said. Pickett tried to knock Smiths head into the middle of next week, just like his dirty uncle Byron used to do!!! That grading crap allows the AFL to choose who gets off and who doesn`t, and Cotchin & Selwood have escaped many times over the years because of that lousy system imo.....Get fair dinkum AFL!!!
Broad cops 4 weeks which to me is a bit light still.
4 weeks is a good starting point, it’s the beginning of a shift in the right direction for this act that will inevitably change the mindsets for all players throughout the league on these types of actions that have long term consequences…

4 weeks is significant.
We've seen more deliberate acts cop less so at least they're taking things more seriously.
If one of our players cop's 4 weeks for a sling tackle, I hope that you maintain the same rage.

The video shown clearly evidences Stanley trying to push TDK off the contest with outstretched arm running at TDK with eyes NOT on the ball - TDK was actually eyes on the ball and trying to leap - knocked off his jump by a barging Stanley...
was a load of crap from the get go - with Dangerfield chastising the umps about unfair play...it seems injury to a player sparks immediate negative view of the opponent in MRC eyes...so teh game is becoming a lottery as far as contests go
