Still hasnt forgiven the Pies for dropping him from the 1990 Premiership.

Doubt it, he's been emceeing club functions for decades. More just like he doesn't have the skill to properly call the moments befitting of the game.

From the Rex Hunt school of commentary.
More about the commentator than the actual events unfolding in front of you.

Steele Sidebottom's kicks one of the all time great goals in a Grand Final, and all we get is "wowee".

We deserve better as viewers.

There was no point lower in the call than Hill’s mark

Literally everyone at the ground could see that mark coming. How he wasn’t preparing for that moment is inexcusable.

I agree, he's just not a good caller

I actually think he intentionally dulls his calls of Collingwood games/passages of play to avoid calls of bias

He seemed to call the Brisbane stuff perfectly fine

there was a family with a couple of young kids sitting next to me in the session I went to. The oldest kid couldnt have been any older then 10. I did wonder what they thought of Nick, Darcy & Pendles dropping F bombs.

Pretty Normal these Days

"Climbed(went?) up a mountain and came down a Hill."

I made the trek to Sunnybank yesterday to watch it, too. It was even sweeter watching it in Brisbane territory... and even more pleasing to see the cinema near capacity with Collingwood fans. Go Pies!!
It wasn't the 4.30pm session you were at was it? If so I apologise, I was the tattooed bearded bogan who whisked his toddler out of the movie half way through. Couldn't get a baby sitter so I foolishly took the lil man out for his first cinema experience (in collingwood apparel, of course). He was fine for the first 40 odd minutes but then decided he wanted to climb over me and chat to other folks in the theatre, leaving me feeling horrible that he was disturbing people who had paid good money for the experience.

Fortunately his mum then arrived to handle the situation while I went back in to enjoy the rest of the doco solo.

I was being taken as a kid to Vic Park in the 90s and heard every word under the sun. My opinion is that it is on the parents to explain why some words are offensive and why, as my parents did. Personally I was glad that they kept the doco authentic in this regard, rather than sanitising it into a fake G-rated affair.

Absolutely, it would have been ridiculous if they had beeped it out. It was raw, and authentic, which is why it was so good to see.

Agreed. He plays down our goals but was more excited over the Brisbane goals.

Still , l think he is an ordinary commentator. Surely they must have better callers on Channel 7.

I went and watched the doco at Warwick in Perth today at 1.20pm and the theatre was 3/4 full with most in Pies gear. I took my 2 young sons and my sister - my youngest said upon leaving “gees dad the players swear a bit!!!”

Good doco to get ready for the upcoming season.

I feel incredibly teased beyond torture right now! When is a poor overseas club member going to get his opportunity to view this masterpiece?

If following our club has taught me nothing else, it's that patience bears the best reward of all. I can't wait until we here in the USA can view it via stream.

In the meantime, keep the feedback flowing! I love it!

Peace!

As an aside, I am really grateful for Fly's philosophy of the fans being the 24th man and "bringing the army with us for the ride". It's one of those things that's easy to say and not mean it, but I think he has proved how genuine he is with that attitude by allowing the access to his life that he has in this doco. IIRC before the parade and one of the training sessions he instructed the players to engage positively with the fans.

So he not only lead us to our 16th flag but he included us in the experience to a degree that I don't believe any coach of any team has done before. Anyone who was involved in the decision to employ Fly as our coach deserve praise.
Apologies for the intrusion again, but just a couple of other quick thoughts.

The bolded now makes seeing them wearing tshirts that made it look for all the world like they were in the army themselves make total sense.

I am hoping that we hear something later this week about an 'alternate' release.

The earliest I am anywhere near a Hoyts cinema is this Sunday 10 March. However, there are no screenings at any cinemas for Take the Steps beyond this Wednesday 6 March: the days are there to be clicked on, but it says that nothing's available. I'm thinking that this may mean that the cinema release is only for one week, and a streaming version may be arriving soon.

It would seem quite foolish if there was literally no place or no method to watch the film post-6/03, especially as we approach round zero and the subsequent week's flag unfurling.
I can’t speak for Melbourne Hoyts cinemas, but I’ve just checked and it’s screening at Hoyts Norwood here in SA at least twice a day up til next Wednesday the 13th of March. I think they normally update the session times for movies late Monday afternoon.

I hope not. It wasn't that excessive and was typically used for emphasis, particularly from Fly. It added to the authenticity. When you hear it from cleanskins like Fly and Nick, it actually means something.
When my 9 year old daughter saw it with me on Friday, every time they used profanity, she’d say “F word” and laugh.

Thinking about seeing it again some time this week, before Opening Round gets underway.
