Instant coffee?

Players used to take caffeine pills like 15 years ago idk if they still do

80's and 90's was less pill and more ingestion or take the shorts off and get jabbed in the arse basically. Loosey goosey around those periods, saw my first stripper in an AFL room (after hours) early 90's as a kid, you think pills were popped or sniffo and licks? One thing the AFL did do is keep up with making it more discreet than it was.

I remember Dermot talking about how they used to half fill a cup with coffee before adding water and somehow drinking it.
I'm sure there are more effective things you can do.
West Coast smacked us in 2007 after Ben Cousins suddenly came alive after a break.
I think I remember that West Coast game. From memory straight after half time Cousins came flying out of the defensive half of the clearance, on the right side and pin-pointed it to a WCE forward. Not one Saint laid a glove on him, and that happened about 5 centre bounces in a row..... it was almost comical how predictable it was and how we seemed incapable of stopping it.....Benny should have been swabbed.....

To be fair he did that to most teams most weeks.

Just looked it up.
It was the only time in 2008 he had 8 clearances, and he only did it twice the year before.
His 15 contested possessions also weren't typical.

Found it online, i saw it live at the time , and to me , there, it seemed like it was all Ben Cousins, but he's hardly sighted on the footage.

Must be a pretty rare game to feature all of Attard, Birss, both Clarke's , Maguire ( who didn't match up well on the West Coast Umpires ), and Mathew Clarke in his last game.

I actually didn’t mind Birss. Thought he was a bit hard done by.

I remember him being a bit almost. He had that weird gait that made him look a bit awkward but was pretty effective.

That was a rough round of delistings, we axed Attard too. We cut deep because we were going heavily into the draft and also kicking around the likes of Dawson and Cousins. Could view it as a good move because we made back-to-back grand finals the next two years with those who remained or a poor move when you consider we drafted Lynch, Stanley, Heyne, Smith, Cahill and Begley who all up combined for 71 games (58 from Stanley alone).

Expand my wings?
I really expire to be a great entrepreneur?
Marking my own footsteps?

I think we might have something special here!

I already love him before he's played a game. Don't care if he speaks in malapropisms if he can play well. He's probably the player I'm most excited about seeing. Actually Dow too. I want to see my new toys. The preseason seems a longway off.

I don't care either. Better to try and fail than not try. We're looking for people who can play football well, not academics.

I just thought it was funny that after all the eggcornery we indulged in during the trade period, we now have an expert in our midst!

That should set the cap among the pigeons and open up a Pandora's box of worms!

I want to see those guys, plus Sharman, Nas, Caminiti and Phillipou after a full preseason of gym work. It's going to be a looooong winter.

Drain the slump, rattle a few caged bird enclosures and put your best foot in front of the other!

We could call it "Party Night with the Saints"

Sinning with the Saints v Demons, our home game. Same concept as party night just different naming.
Bar hop your way to the G with BYO's, kebabs and souva's on the way in.

Hopefully we can dangle the prospect of a potential AFL rookie spot in front of top line VFL players as a way of recruiting and strengthening Sandy
That was my thinking too. It would encourage any kid that doesn’t get drafted from the under 18s to spend a year or two with Sandringham. Can only make them (and us) stronger.

Tim Membrey tracking to continue AFL career in 2024

Saints veteran Tim Membrey looks on track to continue his AFL career, after concerns for his health following his sudden removal from the Saints’ elimination final team in September.

St Kilda goalkicker Tim Membrey is on track to continue his AFL career in 2024 in a big boost to the Saints and those close to the popular forward.

Membrey withdrew on the morning of the club’s elimination final against Greater Western Sydney last month on mental health grounds.

The news rattled some teammates as the Saints notified the AFL and the Giants in order to promote Anthony Caminiti into the starting line-up from outside the emergency list.

Membrey’s health has been the clear focus since and remains the No. 1 priority. He is progressing well and has been spotted at the club’s Moorabbin headquarters regularly.

The 29-year-old, who has kicked 263 goals from 160 games, has been in the gym and out on the track having a kick with teammates during the off-season.

While there understandably will be no pressure placed on Membrey from a football perspective, it appears the much-loved sharpshooter is setting himself for a full pre-season and to play next year.

He has not been alone in returning to training early, with most Saints getting a head start on pre-season training.

The likes of Jack Sinclair, Mason Wood, Mitchito Owens, Marcus Windhager, Liam Stocker and Max King – as well as others – have also hit the gym and the track at club headquarters.

Membrey was restricted to only seven AFL games in 2023 as he battled a knee injury, his fewest from nine seasons at the Saints.

The Saints enjoyed a fruitful trade period, adding Liam Henry (Fremantle) and Paddy Dow (Carlton).

They also possess two first-round selections (currently Nos. 13 and 21) for the first time in six years

Great to see that level of commitment from some of the young fellas, even if it's not all of them. I suppose these are the local kids whose nearest gym is probably the club. Hopefully the others are doing likewise closer to home.

Indeed ..it’s always an interesting time early pre season going to training checking out the newbies!!
