I would happily move on Lochland, Hillier, Sheppard, Sargent Wilson, Smith, Whelan, Vale, Szigeti and maybe Beruldsen. It will be interesting to see who gets delisted.

I think the only one i would keep out of that list is Sargent Wilson and thats because she might legitmately be the only full time winger on the list.

I wonder if she'll stay involved in our Academy? I hope so but I fear she is more likely to return to Victoria.

Seems like the right type of person to become the Academy coach tbh. Game has sadly gone past her in the last 12 months but has been a great player for the club across the early years

Gowans dropped some more hints in his post-match presser:

* sounds like we will take our first pick at the draft and expect to get an excellent player

* we will be looking to trade in players

* from this, I infer our 2nd and 3rd rounders are on the table to trade

* we want tall players - back and forward.


All of that is music to my ears.


If we are able to trade in two good talls, then get Rasheed/O'Hehir and Juneja in the draft, that will be an excellent off-season and will clearly improve our list. May mean we only cut 6 players (4 to make room for the new, and 2 because we have to downsize our list to 30 players).

Wow! That's even deeper than I would cut. When you add Woodward, that's 10 players. I think we'll cut 6-8 (assuming we have to cut our list back from 32 to 30 players which is what I'm thinking). I agree with your identification of the bottom end of our list.

Smith has been inconsistent but is one of our relatively few talls. Especially after yesterday, she survives the cull for mine. I'd like to see her get a bit more mongrel but she is a strong mark and an accurate kick. Doesn't have much of a ground game and doesn't tackle enough though.

Beruldsen has some weapons and is worth persisting with a little longer IMO.

After that I guess it's how deep the club is prepared to cut and my feeling is that they won't be so ruthless as to cut them all. They want some more mature, seasoned players to balance out the list demographic. A player like Szigeti offers leadership, and Whelan has maturity and experience. I'm not close enough to be able to discern which are more worthy of being spared - there are so many variable to factor in.

The idea of cutting Beruldsen never made sense to me. She does make dumb mistakes at time but that’s because she’s trying to take the game on. She has genuine pace and is still learning the game.

As I understand we need to reduce the list by two and appear to be aiming to bring in 4 then with the two retirements we will need to delist 4. So it sounds as if the 4 you mention (minus Steane) would be very likely candidates.

That's a good call out - we don't yet know if anyone on the list has put in a trade request.

Would be weird for them to try and sign a Sydney Western Suburbs player unless they gave her a huge deal which seems a little unrealistic.
