List Mgmt. 2024 AFLW trade and draft

Hearing rumours of Darcy Moloney from the Cats potentially on the move to Sydney. She is only 21 and would surely be not worth too much value.

Thanks for sharing. Not exactly a need if you're right, but improves our depth.

In her recent interview with club media, Bec Privitelli confirmed my impression that the standard of players every draft keeps improving and she described this year's draft crop as "scary" good. That's why I favour continuing to turnover our list. Sure experience and continuity is useful but let's build it with the best players we can get our hands on. We're not needing to win the comp next year.

5 relatively common/consensus delistings. Giving us 5 list spots (i believe we have to go down to 30 list spots this year, but not 100% sure)

Hopeful for
1. Rowbottom
2. Moloney
3. Juneja
and two draftees

Would allow us to build up the core group with girls that have played some senior games of footy whilst also getting some quality from the draft

Yep thats why i was slightly surprised Bullas survived the delisting phase but i guess they didn't want to cut "too" deep on experienced older seasoned players

!!

What do we know about delistings? I've heard nothing! And I'm sore about it. I'm pretty sure the club are obliged by the CBA to have exit interviews etc within a week of our season concluding and most delisting decisions are made then. What have I missed? How do you know about Bullas surviving?

I had not seen that. Thanks for posting.

Sad but good news, as far as I'm concerned. We need to improve, and pruning the bottom of our list is the way forward.

The most surprising of those names is Steane. I wonder if she'll get a gig somewhere else? I can see her as a coach in future if she doesn't continue as a player. Still has a lot to offer at VFLW/Sydney AFL level if not at AFLW level.

That's 7 spaces cleared (when you add the retirements of Lochland and Woodward). All the journeywomen, VFLW level players. The youngsters (RSW, Hillier) have been spared. Two of those are to reduce list size and the other 5 open up list spots for what should be a really exciting draft haul! Next year we'll start cutting the youngsters that aren't living up to their potential. At some point players like Lexi Hamilton, Hayley Bullas, even Maddy Collier will come under the microscope also. But we are transitioning to a proper quality list!

Personally would keep Hillier before Bullas. Think that because Hillier is only 20 whereas Bullas is 28, i know they play different positions but it is an interesting conversation.

5 list spots so hoping for:

Watching yesterday’s game makes it (sentimentally) harder to cut some players because they showed what they’re capable of. Though I guess I’m mostly thinking of Ruby. The idea of cutting Beruldsen never made sense to me. She does make dumb mistakes at time but that’s because she’s trying to take the game on. She has genuine pace and is still learning the game.

I guess the halo of yesterday doesn’t extend to any of Whelan, Sheppard, Szigeti, Steane or Vale, since none of them played. Though I think Gowans rates Steane, and I think she’s a tad better than the rest on that list.

You may have only been pointing out that they didn't play, but that post has aged well! Bravo! You exactly identified those who have been delisted (even if you didn't say you expected them to be delisted) and then correctly noted it would be harder to cut Ruby and that it doesn't make sense to cut Beruldsen. Not for nothing are you a guru.

After posting the post you refer to, I realised that - even more than Ruby - the player possibly saved by her performance against West Coast was Smith. She probably didn’t deserve to survive based on her time with us prior to that game. But hard to ignore that glimpse of what she might be capable of.

I’m a little surprised that Steane has been cut. Surprised but not disappointed. I just thought that Gowans seemed to rate her a bit.
