W 100m Free was tad underwhelming
What do you mean by a tad? MOC not breaking 52 seconds. She admitted she was a bit disappointed with the time.

MOC had a big race in the 200m Free, 2 nights before the 100m final and was visibly distressed after that swim. Her fastest time is 52.08 at last years world champs and her time at nationals in April was 52.27, only 0.06 sec faster than here, but she swam the 200m Free 3 days after the 100m at the nationals, and it was 1.09 sec slower than her 200m at the trials.

But she has to get used to it as the 200m Free final is on Monday 29th and the 100m Free final on Wednesday 31st July.

This was the results in the final. 7 swam the Swimming Oz QT which is also the FINA Olympic QT which means 7 women matched some of the times done by the top 14 swimmers at the Tokyo Olympics.

Have to say I hope Mollie knows what she is doing with her schedule. She shouldn’t swim the 200 if it will impact on her 100m
That's where you hope Dean Boxall as her coach and coach of 9 other swimmers gets it right.

He admitted making a small mistake after Arnie won the 200m and the day later was the final of the 4x200m Free relay and part of the reason for her slow lead off leg and Oz only picked up bronze when they were favourite to win.

Yeah I know some of the Chinese swimmers are implicated in the drug issue WADA turned a blind eye too, but Arnie was about 0.75 sec slower than expected.

There was probably more pressure on Mollie (& others) in our trials because they needed to make the team. They will be more rested in Paris and - to some degree - the pressure will actually be less.

Mollie has swum the 100/200 double (plus relays) at world level for the past few years and has had little trouble performing at a high level.

It is good that their pre-Olympics staging camp begins this week in France and should allow them to get over time zone differences.

Good Luck to all our Aussies.

100% it’s so small margins when you are talking winning and silver/bronze whatever.

Kaylee is the one I have concerns on as I hate this idea of going for an IM when it could severely impact her winning her pet events

I played a drinking game, I took a shot everytime the commentators found a new way to put a positive spin on Shayna Jack’s time away from swimming. I now need a liver transplant.

“Back from the abyss”
“After what she has overcome”
“Tragic circumstances”

Anyway, Josh Yang is now my favourite swimmer. What a meet he had and what a wonderfully humble and polite young guy, hope he goes far.

Jack served her time. If footy players were subject to such stringent testing as swimming or athletics, few teams would be able to field a squad.

At least she served her time unlike some others from other countries. She’s also been remorseful everyone deserves one second chance on these things donut another time and that’s it though

I don’t disagree and would be happy for footy to have a broom run through it.

And I have no issues with her returning, she served her time. I just found it interesting the way it was twisted into some badge of honour by the commentary team. Either call it what it was, or stop referencing it.

It was called on the back of the joke Chinese controversy more so about them than Shayna really. We sort of saw it at the last Olympics some Chinese swimmers taking big chunks off their PB’s to never be seen again

Over the next two days there only seem to be two events where the US will better our trial results - M200Fly & possibly W100Back (only if Smith breaks McKeown's WR).

One event probably fairly even - M100Free - and the rest where Oz is likely to stay ahead (M 800Free, 200Breast, W100 Free, 1500Free)

Day 3 of US Swim trials

W 400m IM
Winner Katie Grimes (SAND), 4:35.00 v Oz winner Ella Ramsay 4:36.56
Summer McIntosh bnroke the WR at Canadian trials with a 4.24

M 200m Free
Winner Luke Hobson (LAKE), 1:44.89 v Oz winner Maxim Giuliani 1:45.83
Fastest in 2024 is German Lukkas Marten 1.44.14. He also is the fastest in 400m 3.40.33
Top 4 US swimmers were about 2.70 seconds fastest than top 4 Aussies for 4x200m Free relay

Brits will win the 4x200m Free relay. . They won in Tokyo with the current WR and then last year in Fukuoka world champs and were the only team to break 7 minutes at both meets. The battle is for silver and bronze. Oz missed the silver by 0.03 sec to the Russians in Tokyo and yanks were 4th due to a really slow leg by Zach Apple. In Fukuoka USA got Oz by 2.11 sec for silver. Questions will be if Oz throws Chalmers in given his relay pedigree, and if the team improves during their training camp??

M 100m Back
Winner Ryan Murphy (CAL), 52.22 v Isacc Cooper's 53.46
Murphy won gold in 2016 and bronze in 2020 and beaten by 2 Russians who won't be there this time. He now has the fastest in 2024 for the event. But Italian Thomas Ceccon will start favourite.

W 100m Breaststroke
Winner was WR holder Lilly King (USC), 1:05.43. Reigning Olympic championLydia Jacoby finished 3rd and wont defend her title. Tang of China and 2020 silver medallist Tatjana Smith ( nee Schoenmakers) will battle it out for medals. 2023 world champ Lithuanian Meilutyte hasn't done much this year.

Semi Finals
W 100m Back
Fastest Regan Smith (TXLA), 57.47 with a new PB and American Record who now has the 4th fastest time behind Kaylee McKeown's 3, who won in Brisbane in 51.41. This will be a ding dong battle in Paris. Kaylee beat Smith by 0.25 in Fukuoka. Let's see what she produces in the final.

W 200m Free
Top 2 had a a head to head battle for most of the 200m until Ledecky power away in last 25m. We find out more in tomorrow night's final.
  1. Katie Ledecky (GSC-FL), 1:55.22
  2. Claire Weinstein (SAND), 1:56.18

Won’t be shocked if they beat our mens 1500 free that was a very slow time. Smith won’t beat Kaylee’s time. That will be a great race at the Olympics, the Canadian too

US trials are in a temporary pool set up inside 65,000 seater Lucas Oil stadium in Indianapolis home of Indianapolis Colts.

This guy Kyle who I have been following since Tokyo and calls himself - the President & CEO of Swimming Twitter • Intern at Swimming YouTube • Swimming play-by-play commentator & analyst - wasn't real keen on having a swimming comp inside a football stadium but couple of days ago wrote;

I’ll be honest… I didn’t think having a swim meet in a football stadium was a good idea.I was wrong. We’re two heats into prelims and I can already tell that finals tonight will be one of the, if not the, most electric atmospheres in the history of swimming.

Haha, you can watch yourself on the big screen mid race.

Here is vision of the Ledecky SF win. This French guy has all the finals and SF swims on his twitter account. The US NBC commentary team isn't any better than channel 9's. He also has current French trials and Euro championships footage on his account.
