The Brownlow is deeply flawed as an award as very good players in teams with other very good players are punished because those other players steal votes. What you want to be is the best midfielder in a reasonably average team, so you stand out in every one of your wins, getting the three votes and usually able to pick up 1 vote in the losses.

Or simply be a huge umpires pet and get 3 votes for just walking on the field like Goodes, Judd and Cripps.
