That is all very strange. He wants to go to a BIG Melbourne club hey, well that rules us out. :moustache:
Kate Roffey called us a big club and I believed her. Anyway didn't Phillipou basically the same thing before getting drafted by the Saints.

I just read that. That's a whole lot better than what was reported initially. Still need to be careful.
Wont be able to do the draft combine. I don't think we will take him with 5, he looks good but not convinced that he has the wheels to be a star at AFL level instead of just a ok/good player.

He might even slide out of the top 10. I'd really love another pick in the teens!

Sucks, we need more small forwards. Kozzy alone is not enough. Chin floats in and out.

We've seen how devastating the forward-line from Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong etc when they have smalls just running amok.
Sydney are so stacked they haven't offered Konstanty a contract - pick 20, small forward from only 2 season back. Crazy.

What happened to kids just wanting to get drafted? Now they dictate where they do or don't want to go predraft.
Yeah, I never heard Chris Judd, Jason Dunstall etc... complain. This is why these kids won't go anywhere. Would've thought that if your living the dream you wouldn't care who selected you on the night.

Nah, disagree with that. I think it's totally fair to have reservations about working for a specific employer or living in a specific place, for whatever reason you like.

So what happens if then the Crows draft him, and he chooses not to play?

I think you can express honesty on where you'd like to be, but if you got drafted to a club you didn't want to join and refuse to go there then you should be deregistered for a time period (Granted I don't recall this happening). There is far too much player power on the AFL.

I have watched a fair bit of the Coates league games this year and a few live games, mostly with the Murray Bushrangers who I have a part time gig with the under 15's and 16's squad.

Depending who you speak to whether that development coaches or part time recruiters, there is a lot of mixed review on Murphy Reid. There is no doubt he is a ball magnet and as a midfielder that's always the first step into making it in the big time as a junior in being able to win the footy first and foremost.

Unfortunately for a slight 180cm midfielder he lacks the pace and speed in being able to break away from stoppages and contests in general. When you're that small you need to have something that separates you from the rest of the midfielders and we're finding in todays game that the true great midfielders have that absolutely power and speed to burst out of contests (Nick Daicos, Zac Butters and Errol Gulden are examples). I know this is what recruiters look for as the prototype midfielder. He did his knee in the grand final purely because he was so slow to get rid of the footy when he had time and space to get it forward. You'd hope he'll adjust well at AFL level when the pressure is more intense.

He's the type that will sit on cruise control all day and rack up the footy. He's certainly got the composer at times and ability to dish off first use of the footy when playing the inside role and then just simply cruise to the next contest with ease.

Plays very similar to Darcy Parish.

Thanks for that dazzle, will be very interesting to see who we go with pick 5
Taking a guess I think the list of names such as Finn O'Sullivan, Sid Draper, Sam Lalor Harvey Langford and perhaps Josh Smillie would be on top of our list.

Reid may drop a little with his injury and the fact that he wont be able to test at draft combine.

Not that it matters, wayne carey would suck in our forward line with our ball movement and dog shit entries.
Nah, Wayne Carey instantly makes any forward line infinitely better. We're talking about a generational player here. A tweak to our midfield and a new forward coach can easily improve the way a team move the ball. Cats did it in one offseason then won the flag on the back of it. Not saying we will win the flag next year, but ball movement and effectiveness can turn around pretty quickly if the right people are in place. Unfortunately Goody is still our coach, so unless an assistant coach primarily takes over this part of our game, then i doubt things will change much. But give me Wayne Carey anyday over Petty. I don't care how bad our ball movement is, he'd make the F50 infinitely better.
