Interesting tweet put out by Jaiden Popowski. Of the top 10,000 (counts me in) 5,941 don't have all of Heeney, Sheezel and Steele.
A staggering 1819 don't have both Heeney and Sheezel (me again)
1493 don't have Steel and Sheezel,
Drops to just 281 don't have both Heeney and Steele (me again)

Sheezel the highest non-ownership at 376, followed by Heeney at 46, then Steele at 36
I think you're reading that tweet wrong.

It's 5,941 have all three of them
1,819 have Heeney and Sheezel (but not Steele)
1,493 have Steele and Sheezel (but not Heeney)
281 have Heeney and Steele (but not Sheezel)

376 only have Sheezel
47 only have Heeney
36 only have Steele

7 do not have any of the three

Hat Chat last night suggesting now isn't the time to go for Steele, but instead focus on the value plays, but part of me does think that having Steele in addition to Sheezel (I don't have Heeney either) is actually a value play in some ways. Still tossing up whether to hold or fold on Dawson..

Dawson to Steele just feels like an easy win, but if Steele puts out a 110 tonight and Dawson manages to ton up then all of a sudden it looks a bit pointless.
I think the logic with these sorts of calls is:

  • if you missed an uber premo (steele/sheez) then grabbing them late only cements your spot behind all of those who had him earlier.
  • if you wait and grab cheaper value perhaps you make it back in the long run in other ways.

Best chance at improving rank albeit with lesser probability is to avoid them now.
Best chance at conserving your rank with high probability is jump on late and pay top dollar for them.

Of the 5941 with all - wonder how many have Bont/Dawson types.

The argument on the pod though was to pick up Steele post-mid-season Byes. To me that feels worse than grabbing him now.

I agree. He's a R15 bye. Its too long to wait on him.
If you want him the best time is yesterday.

Particularly given the entire comp will VC him into this game for another 120.

Edit: That said the argument is... for this weeks sake.. should you pay $1M for Steele, or sub $900k for Walsh?

Next week should you pay $1M for Steele or sub $880k for a Miller versing West Coast.

etc etc.

Yep. I think if Clark is out for the Cats this week I'll hold him and get Steele for Dawson, but if he's playing I'll ditch him instead as it's better to get the cash gen going with my TV so far behind. My midfield is incredibly weak compared to most though.

Flip that around...

5,941 (nearly 60% of teams) HAVE all three
~3,500 have two of three
Sheezel the highest owned of the three
Only 6 teams have none of them

They should both get a decent run after their last games. Drury possibly safer than Biggy. Kal Dawson is out for 2 or 3 more weeks. When Kal comes back it will be for either Biggie or Corr. Hopefully Corr.
Biggie lookeed really good last week, I agree on Corr he's been really bad this season, should be dropped but won't

Thoughts on Biggy and Drury JS?

Reckon Biggy is safe for the next few weeks as Dawson is still out with an ankle injury and Pink isn't setting the world on fire in the VFL, not to mention Logue who is still months away. Probably wouldn't be expecting 80s every week but will benefit from our lack of KPD depth.

Drury should hold his spot this week at the very least but was playing a fantasy friendly high HF role and once Zurhaar + Stephenson come back into the side if he manages to stay in he is most at risk of a role change IMO.

I wouldn't be counting on them staying in the side long term though at this stage so buyer beware.

How much of a waste do we think to let Clarke sit on the bench and lose the 100 he has made to make more sensible trades like Campbell who I doubt will make much more and will put extra in the bank when you need it?

yeah its totally fine. I dont think it makes any sense to trade out Clarke. he isn't worth anything but at least he's best 22 (on the fringe).

That's the worst of both worlds. Not a red dot you can use to loop, and not generating any cash.

Depends on what else you can do for mine. I've got Clark losing $10k this week and about $10k the week after if he plays. As much as I need to move Clark on, moving Duursma on gives me an extra $100k to play with, which opens up those Hill / Duursma / Caldwell / Rankine trades if that's the direction I want to go.

U never know he might be a red dot this week. He had 23% time on ground but barely touched the ball against shit team. Maybe gets a week off and cats go with someone with bigger body and vet against hardened lions team. Really need the red dot more than cash gen so i can loop in players?

Yeah absolutely, and if he's a red dot I'll hold him as I can use him as a loop for my midfield. Then he'll actually have some value! But if he's a green dot leaking cash and scoring 30s then you should ditch as soon as you can.
