I’m not convinced Buckaroo will stay. In the Caulfield Cup, they really slowed down mid race which allowed him to conserve some energy.
If the Melbourne Cup is a sit and sprint, he should win. But if it’s a proper staying test, I have my doubts.
Can't see there being any strong tempo at Flemington either though

2018: Cross Counter (51kg)
2017: Rekindling (51.5kg)
1993: Vintage Crop (55.5kg)
1983: Kiwi (52kg)
All of these winners got off the plane and ran in the Melbourne Cup and won it.
Doesn't happen often but it has happened, especially in the past 7 years.
i thought you meant first up from a spellKiwi didn't run in Australia prior to Melbourne Cup win. Last run before Cup win was a 2100m hcp event in New Zealand.
