Injury 2024 Injury Report/Updates

Match play training strikes me as oxymoronic, but I’ll take it on face value as good news.
Training doing actual match play simulations does not sound oxymoronic to me… it’s a specific type of training drill.

Significant milestone once he gets to that stage. Exciting stuff if he will be doing it that soon

... because ACL's are generally 12 months.

Many called it in January? A month after he did his ACL?

many players have returned earlier than 12 months, Tony Liberatore returned after 16 weeks. all players recovery times are different
i was suprised at the time when media were saying he was out for the whole of 2024
i would give him a full month in the VFL though to get confidence in it before a return to the seniors, just in time for finals

The general consensus is 12 months. Anything less is unusual, not the norm.

I'm not sure anyone could have predicted in January Dan would be back early, considering he only did his ACL in December 😆

Tony's was considered a 'miracle' recovery. Certainly not the norm.

Surely centre of gravity has a bit to do with it though.

Most people just call it match sims but ok.

I certainly didn’t read it as real (presumably VFL) matches being considered practice.

That would be oxymoronic. And a bit moronic to use the terminology that way😂

Also a little optimistic that he’d be plsying actual games in June

Fox Sports now reporting that Fly has confirmed that Pendles will miss.
Team Tips: The premiers are nowhere near peak condition right now, though they’re still not losing, which is pretty impressive. Collingwood will need to find replacements for Mason Cox (leg/concussion), Joe Richards (foot) and Brody Mihocek for their clash against the Bulldogs, plus Jordan De Goey is set to miss another month with an ab tendon tear. Additionally, coach Craig McRae confirmed on Wednesday morning that Scott Pendlebury would miss on Friday night also, leaving the Pies even more depleted. That said, it puts the likes of Reef McInnes, Nathan Kreuger and Ash Johnson in the frame for senior selection. Collingwood’s VFL side didn’t have a match last week, but the Pies will be hoping to potentially get Jeremy Howe and Jack Bytel back from injury. Jamie Elliott (vascular) and Tom Mitchell (foot) are confusingly both 2-5 weeks away, while Will Hoskin-Elliott (hamstring) should be back in a fortnight. Depending on how they’re looking on the injury front, debutants Wil Parker and Ed Allan, along with defender Charlie Dean, could end up being unlucky at selection.

Why didn't they include him in the injury report? We all knew he had hurt his arm. I hate this add ons. Tell us he's in doubt on Monday.
Fly said they expected him to get through training and play.

Yeah because the club was showing footage of him already ahead of schedule

"12 month injury" was always essentially branding because most players do knees during the season.

Plenty of players have come back in less when the timing worked out. Although I say "plenty", but the number isn't huge or anything but it's not totally abnormal

McStay would be the 4th at Collingwood in the last 20 years. That's just Collingwood though.

  • Krakouer was back I think in like 6 months
  • Goldsack was back within 6 months
  • McStay will be 7 months
  • Didak I think did his knee at the end of 2006 and played ANZAC Day 2007 (partially torn ACL)

Of course we all hoped he'd be back this year. And hopefully he will be.

But it's not the norm. That's why those that have done it earlier are remembered & celebrated. Because it is so rare.

It's also worth noting what stage of their careers they were at and how soon after returning that they retired from the game.

Dan is still in his prime and we want him to be around for a few more years, not just scrape through this year to try and play in a GF/premiership before he retires.

It's great that he is ahead of schedule & hopefully he makes an early & successful return before seasons end. That's what we all want.

I don't think I ever suggested it was the norm. It isn't.

As I had said, timing of when the injury occurs is the key factor imo.

If you look at all the Collingwood cases of "early" returns, all of them were done at the start/pre-season or end of the season/post season.

I doubt that's a coincidence

Goldsack - pre-season
Krakouer - pre-season
Didak - end of season
McStay - very very early pre-season

I'm surprised so many in the media are surprised McStay is coming back this year?

Many of us here called it back in January. Even the Club was basically telling everyone he would be back this year when they didn't put him on the long term injury list.

Round 20 is a little later than I predicted though.

I honestly thought he'd be back playing AFL early to mid-July but I won't complain about Round 20. Still gives him a month lead in to finals
I’m totally shocked that the media didn’t run with it when you predicted it.

. What difference would it have made to your life if he was mentioned in an injury report on Monday or not? Everybody knew he had some sort of injury. They thought he’d get through and he didn’t.

I think we should name and shame all posters who bemoaned the young players not getting opportunities at the start of the season. Contrarily we had posters saying we had no depth with VFL looking a horrible team. 🤣🤣 curse you all!!

I've never seen a season like this. Where does our VFL team get top up players from this week?

Have you visited the VFL game day thread? 😆

It's a nightmare on there.
