Based on reports, how close would this be to the first of a rolling 'pre-season' round 1 line up?

C. Jiath Newcombe Weddle

F. Hardwick Chol Breust

Foll. Reeves Ward Nash

Nash twice, to be sure to be sure

Yep, very keen on playing the Nash twins and agree - Day’s not much chop, hopelessly overrated.
And I’d start with Worpel on the ball and Ward on the bench.

(sigh - its only mid December)

FYI, Tim is on here - Newmo89

Remember that time I posted a team and accidentally wrote Nash twice instead of Day, then didn't open Bigfooty again for nearly 6 hours.

FYI, the team I posted wasn't necessarily my idea of our best side. Just an exercise based around the rumours of positional changes and form of players according to our track watchers.

I'll never do it again now I've stuffed up the first one so badly haha.

Only nashural for people to make light of it.

Mass will be back 50 and will become our go to man to kick the ball out after a behind.

I have been screaming this for years that having a designated kicker and tactics to break through a team press from a kick out will win a team a premiership, yet I don’t see any great advances.

During a game there is so many 50/50 contests that can be determined on the bounce of a ball, yet a kick out 10-15 times a game is the one time you own the footy and have 25 metres of space and time to make a decision. Unfortunately, I still see too much of stop, hold, wait for the ump to yell at the player to kick and then the player not even using the space he is allocated, kicks it to 55 out and a huge pack and a stoppage. Crazy stuff.

I hope Mass becomes our Guerra who can open things up for us by foot and turn defence into attack for us.
Indeed, footskills off the hbf are premium in the modern game.

I've heard that even after a hard running session, Weddle actually runs home. But what's most impressive is that he gives a few of the boys a lift home.
When Kennedy took over at the hawks after a stint away, the training course he made them go through was not far from it, only Kennedy did it as well. And ran to and from the venue from home.

It was only about a month ago I put together a team and discovered before posting it that with all the shuffling to fit everyone in that I had left Day out (a victim of his flexibility). I posted it anyway and despite explaining what had happened in the first line of the post. I still got replies asking where Day was lol.

Love ya Sammy, but can’t cop this Hardwick talk at all.
One 10 minute burst by an small fwd opposition player early in the season with our stopper watching from the other end and fans will lose their minds.
With small fwds coming out of our ears, coaching credits will be on the line.

I love Dimma and think he’s the most underrated player in the comp - but in your scenario Seamus will be playing down back so it’ll be fine.

A lot of Seamus' one on one work looks as good as anyone we've had come in since Hardwick established himself.

Not a lot of defensive gears in our current bracket of smalls up forward (not saying it can't get better this year), and we had a lot more defensive bite there when the guy who left came into the side.

Hardwick's defensive mindset, muscle and one on ability is required forward at least until Butler establishes himself.

Plus, it's not like Hardwick can't swing down back if required.

Genuinely love how tough this is now.

Ward, Mackenzie, Day, Weddle, Newc, Worps, Hardwick, Scrim, MacDonald, Jiath are all going to have multiple roles and I think versatility will be key to breaking in to the side.
Butts seems most likely, followed by Gunners and DGB IMO.

the secret’s out!

And I’d put Watson before Ginni. He’s got more to offer. Ginni plays if Bruest or Watson can’t get on the park.
Yes - great idea.

Premiership player fresh from a program far advanced to ours……gets to play at Box Hill unless a new draftee is injured.

Ain’t going to happen.

Dimma has Toby Greene’s measure every time. You think a 10 gamer is up to that job?

Who's to say he isn't? If our coaching panel are confident in Mitchell's job to take more of Dimma's role and for Dimma to move forward then so be it. If it doesn't work they'll just move Dimma back to defence again. As someone else noted - despite our variety of small-medium forwards now we don't have a more defensive-minded pressure forward. Dimma would likely have the tools to be that player. Our forward line needs all the depth and difference it can get so if the coaches think this is a way forward and Mitchell and D'Ambrosio can get the job done down back then let's see how it looks before we stomp our feet.

I think the point here is that if a small forward gets the opportunity for an impactful 10m burst then there are some significant issues in the other parts of the ground allowing it.

It's the difference between planning to not lose and planning to win. Continuing to play Hardwick as a defender is planning to not lose, planning to win is solidifying the rest of the ground so that the other team needs to worry about our dangerous small.

The Amon move is interesting i put it down to more versatility than anything.
He would offer something our run and carry defenders can't.The pin point ball use would cut zone's apart the bloke is a laser by foot who makes good decisions! I think we are looking to add this in the line up with the D'Ambrosio trade.
The golden era had guys like Burgoyne and Hodge starting behind the football at times. Not to mention the laser himself Suckling's - 60 meter kicks to a open player on the wing, the field opens up Bang! Goal!

The wings i see Weddle as a lock the best runner at the club, this would help out our defensive with his gut running get back and fill a void in the air.
Ward, Finn all these guys are great runners and strong defensively.

Amon & D'Ambrosio could rotate off HBF and the wing. D.Moore is a jet on the wing perhaps he moves up more regularly with a new look forward line.

So many options bring on 2024!

Only one Nash?

Same, not sure what the end game is but we are seemingly robbing Peter twice, to maybe pay Paul. I really don't like the idea of moving our best small defender and our best wingman into foreign positions.
Wonder if the fact that both are older players is relevant ie extend their careers/they can move about because they’re experienced enough to do it

Still no love for the Frostball.

Can't see him missing out.. For the first few games anyway.
Sam’s already said they will be picking best available this year, not a team for development.

Based on this it’s almost certain he’ll play, particularly how light we down back in big defenders.
