This thread is for the 2024 Draft Order.

Through the trade period I will try and keep it as up to date as possible, but I am one person so please be patient.

I have also set up threadmarks on the round updates, and will do the same through the trade period as picks change hands. This allows you to put the thread in reader mode, only seeing updates, or to jump back and forth to particular trades that may be of interest. To access this feature please use the button at the top right corner of the thread.

Tag me if you notice anything that isn't quite right!

Some picks swapped this year are future picks, in the 2025 Draft Order. That order can be found here:

If it helps in any way, all the picks etc. are listed here https://www.zerohanger.com/afl/afl-draft-order-2024
The problem with a lot of the third party sites is that they just source random other sites, it's all an echo chamber based off whoever put anything up first. I have more trust in Lore's and our research than anything bar the actual AFL site. Same with the contract statuses on BigFooty - I trust that well over FootyWire, etc.

Tables are all from Wikipedia.

Also: St Kilda's social team are a pain in the arse.

"Earlier in the night, St Kilda improved its draft position to pick No. 33 (originally pick No. 27, pushed out by academy/father-son bids), engaging in a three-club trade with Gold Coast and Melbourne which saw pick No. 42 and a future third-round selection depart to the Suns and Demons respectively."

Neither club specifies which second round pick has been traded. Adelaide currently have Melbourne's 2024 R2 pick as well as their own. Pending further evidence, I will assume that Adelaide have traded their own pick.

GWS gets pick 17. St Kilda gets pick 18 and a future second.

GWS states that the F2 they gave to St Kilda is tied to Adelaide's 2024 finishing position.

That also basically confirms that Adelaide traded their own pick to GWS.

Brisbane gets pick 51. Gold Coast gets a future fourth (Bris?).
Fremantle gets pick 35. Richmond gets pick 38 and a future third (Freo).
West Coast gets pick 38. Richmond gets 40 and a future third (WC)
Port Adelaide gets pick 48. North Melbourne gets a future fourth (Essendon).

Port don't have their F4, it is already with Richmond. Wikipedia suggests that they may have traded the pick tied to Carlton, which is the only one they have left to trade. I will make the same assumption for now.

Sydney gets pick 53. Hawthorn gets 59 and a future fourth (Syd).
Essendon gets pick 54. Richmond gets a future fourth (Coll).

First screenshot of the year... this isn't live atm, I am manually updating the ladder because the AFL website and the AFL live ladders website are now too modern for IMPORTHTML/IMPORTXML – anyone got any ideas?
When you say manual are you just manually updating the ladder?

Like are the picks tied to the ladder as the source data.

The picks are all automated based on the ladder in the third or fourth tab— but I am manually updating the ladder once a week, because all the online ladders I can find aren’t working as a data scrape atm.

Last year and for the last few years it was fully automatic using either afl.com.au or liveladders.com so it would be literally accurate at all times, including mid game. But alas

Yeah that's a shame, surprised liveladders.com is not working. I wonder if that bloke who runs the squiggly still posts around here, his site has a live ladder must get the data from somewhere somehow. I'll have a look as well if I find anything I'll DM.
